🚨 INVESTIGATION: Albuquerque Dog Grooming Chain Accused of Animal Abuse 🚨

Over the past few weeks, dozens of dog owners and former employees have come forward with disturbing allegations against Barking Bad Grooming and related shops tied to owner Alex Campbell.

📌 What we found:
• Dogs allegedly returned home with serious cuts, chemical burns, and even life-threatening injuries.
• One customer says her dog’s eye was glued shut with super glue before needing $2,000 in emergency surgery.
• Another claims her pup’s cornea was burned during grooming, leaving him on long-term medication.
• Former staff members accuse Campbell of allowing untrained workers to handle pets, with one dog allegedly dying after being left unattended.
• Multiple testimonies say Campbell himself abused animals, including strangling a dog to speed up grooming.

📌 The bigger picture:
• Barking Bad has been in legal trouble before. In 2015, KRQE reported the City of Albuquerque took Campbell to court for operating without permits.
• The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the business, with victims being referred to Detective Kevin Carhart of the Special Victims Unit.

📌 Community voices:
💬 “How are they still in business?”
💬 “They hurt my dog and lied about it.”
💬 “This is a pattern of abuse and cover-ups.”

🐾 If your pet has been affected, you’re urged to document everything, file official complaints, and contact authorities.

I'd like to let everyone know who brings their dog to Barking Bad Grooming that it doesn't have a single certified groomer. There is no Master Groomer supervising the groomers who at any given time could have absolutely no training and be working with your dog. Alex supports a state funded program called Career Link where people are sent to receive training and are paid by the state to be there. He doesn't inform clients that untrained or trainees are the ones working on the dogs. I know this because I Tanya Baker who was said to be fired and stole from Alex when in fact I was his business partner and the clients were mine. I have over 22 years of grooming experience and it was my job to supervise and train the people that came to Barking Bad from Career Link. Alex then locked the door with all of my belongings in it. He refused to give me the money he owed me and has proceeded to use my reputation to continue this business. I have never been charged with theft or been contacted by law enforcement because I did nothing wrong other than pay myself the money Alex owed me from the company account which I was a business partner in the company. There was an article tan in Albuquerque Magazine where it clearly stated Alex and myself as the Owners of Barking Bad. Prior to me leaving, Alex left a trainee alone drying a dog subsequently the dog died. The trainee was so new that she failed to recognize the stress signs and the elderly dog passed away. There is NOTHING boutique about Barking Bad. I encourage anyone who chooses to use this business to do your homework and ask questions. Ask about the groomers experience in the field, ask to see the facility, your dogs life may depend on it. For all of my clients that are unaware of where I am. I can be reached at 505-886-1874. Thank you.
