We had an amazing adoption event today… so many happy tails, wagging butts, and smiling faces. 💕 But as soon as it wrapped up, one of our incredible foster humans got home and was met with heartbreaking news: a very sick stray puppy was waiting on the doorstep.

This poor pup was in rough, rough shape. Our foster rushed her to not one, but two clinics, and was turned away both times. 💔

We told her to bring the pup straight to our our volunteer’s house so she could assess her and decide if immediate ER care was needed. The moment she arrived, it was absolutely certain… it’s parvo.

If you’ve ever smelled it, you know it’s unforgettable. It makes even the most seasoned rescue and vet staff cringe.

Our volunteer is fully equipped to hospitalize and care for parvo cases, and she jumped into action right away… starting IV fluids, mixing Pedialyte and food, doing everything possible to give this baby a fighting chance. 🩵 But she’s very sick, and we are praying she pulls through.

We are so grateful to our friends at Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico, who immediately stepped up to take her under their wing so she can continue receiving the intensive care she needs.

🙏 She’s now being rushed to Western Trails Vet to be seen tonight as her symptoms are very bad and whether that means hospitalization or further treatment, it’s going to be costly.

We are starting this fundraiser with a goal of $500, but we know the total will likely climb much higher.

Every single dollar helps us say yes when emergencies like this happen and helps Lap Dog Rescue continue their lifesaving work, too.

We have some adoptable dogs from Albuquerque Animal Welfare joining us.

We have a big blue sweet hearted bully named Harley who is currently being privately rehomed joining us (dog, cat, human friendly. See our cross posts photo album)

Adoptable Lola (Chip-E, but her foster parents are calling her Lola!) is settling down and getting comfy after her spay today! This girl was incredibly shelter stressed and lost !12! Lbs while she was in the shelter… in only A MONTH😩 so grateful for the foster who stepped up to rescue her and now to find her a forever home! Reach out to us or Albuquerque Animal Welfare about meeting Lola! So far she loves humans, and seems to get along with dogs and cats! She has a forever puppy look… but don’t be fooled because this girl can go from 0 to 100 so quickly! Down to play? She’s in. Down to nap? She’s all for it! She’s so cute!

Special Feature: Allergic to lots of things, but not love!

Neptune’s story is one of patience, healing, and pure heart. 💗

When this beautiful boy first came to PKR all the way from Georgia, he was itchy, scabby, and miserable… battling allergies that left him in a cone almost 24/7. His previous shelter had tried over a year to get him under control but it was determined that leaving the humid climate for the dry climate would significantly help him. Neptune never lost his loving spirit. Through every bath, every medication, every moment of discomfort, he stayed sweet, trusting, and hopeful.

And now… after more than a year in foster care, Neptune is finally cone-free and thriving!

His foster family has found a great routine that keeps his skin happy and healthy! a simple, non-Rx diet and two easy daily medications (which he takes like a champ!). He also benefits from having nail caps on his nails to soften his kitty claws when he is itching. He prefers the pink sparkly ones💅

Today, Neptune is living his best soft-boy life. He’s a calm, affectionate lap cat who loves nothing more than curling up on your legs, making the sweetest biscuits, and gazing up at you with those soulful eyes that seem to say, “Thank you for loving me.” Soulful… but… also very glaring when you first meet him. He has major RBF🤣

He is the kind of companion who will quietly remind you every day how beautiful it is to be loved. Unless you forget to feed him at the right time. Then you’ll be hearing from his lawyer

🐶 Dogs: he has met dogs when he is at events or on the news… and he didn’t LOVE it. But with time and patience and proper intros, he is likely to coexist with a friendly dog.

🐱 Cats: Neptune adores other cats! He’s playful, cuddly, and especially close to one of his foster siblings…a blind kitty who cleans him and naps pressed up against him. 💕

👧 Kids: He’d do great with calm, respectful children who appreciate a mellow, affectionate cat.

Neptune may need the occasional allergy bath (which he’s surprisingly amazing at!), but he’s such a good sport about it that you’ll actually look forward to pampering him.

After everything he’s been through, Neptune is so ready for his forever family, one that will love him for who he is, quirks and all. He’s a reminder that even the most sensitive souls can shine the brightest when they’re finally safe, healthy, and home.

Meet Marnie, our little calico cutie with a heart (and spirit!) as magical as her namesake from Halloweentown. When she first came into rescue from the streets, she was fighting a very bad upper respiratory infection. Some of her early photos show her eyes looking a little funky...but don’t worry! Marnie is completely healed up now, full of life, and doesn’t have any lingering effects from her rough start.

Now, this brave girl is making up for lost time: playing, purring, and exploring every corner like the curious little witch she is. Her favorite things? Toy wands, cozy naps, and following you around to see what kind of magic you’re up to.

Marnie’s brother, October (Toby), would love to find a forever home with her, but she’d also do great joining a home with other friendly cats to keep her company.
