Feliz Día de las Mascotas. In my job I get to meet so many amazing people and animals and every time one of them leaves, they each take a little peace off my heart. Let’s welcome them home tonight and know they are always with us and will forever be loved and missed.

In the shelter since Christmas after coming from a cruelty/neglect case, 9 year old Zero was not doing well. When people looked in his kennel he was scared and barked and growled. He was overlooked. Then Kim from abarkingchancerescue messaged me to see if I was interested in fostering. We went out to meet him and I was hesitant at first until we got him out of the kennel. My kids sat down and he went right over to them, calmly wanting love and affection. We took him home that day planning to just foster him. We should have known then, and a part of me did, that he was going to be ours forever. We immediately changed his name to Ozzie, never again would he be thought of as a zero. At 9 years old he is the baby of our dogs but he fits in like he was always there. Never again will he know cruelty or neglect. Welcome to the family Ozzie!!

This is a reminder to give the scared, angry, older ones a chance. Too often are they overlooked and not given a chance. There are so many little lives out there looking for homes and a second chance. Be the good.

Did you know that September is Animal Pain Awareness month? Pain is a leading cause of behavior changes in your animals. Think about it, do you act the same when you are hurting? Unfortunately, they can’t voice those pains to us and at times it goes unnoticed until something bad happens and the dog gets labeled a bad dog. Check out some of the signs of pain and consult with your vet if you have concerns. When pain is ruled out, check out ABQ Bark University for help with everything else!
