According to new research from the Dog Aging Project, dogs that share their homes with another animal—especially another dog—tend to live longer, healthier lives.

Scientists analyzed data from more than 21,000 dogs and found that those with a furry companion were consistently rated as healthier, with fewer illnesses and stronger well-being scores. The benefits of social companionship were even found to be five times greater than factors like household income or neighborhood stability.

While dogs in wealthier, stable homes were generally healthier, researchers say nothing compared to the positive effects of companionship. Lead researcher Brianah McCoy explained that the findings emphasize how vital social bonds are—not just for humans, but for pets too.

Oliver and Ralph at Button Brand Veterinary Clinic looking for their new forever home. These guys are wonderful dogs. Your typical small breeds and for reason we must state and remind those out there that rescue dogs need time typically 3weeks to 3months for rescue dogs to warm up to everyone and adjust to a home environment. Please don’t adopt if you’re not willing to work with rescue dogs.
