Gaia Akropolis - my beloved “runt of the litter”. There is a little story to her birth.
Lada was in labor since 9PM and it was already 5:30 in the morning. She had one more puppy to deliver. This one was tucked in all way up into her ribcage and had to travel a great distance to take the first breath.
Lada was tired, she was resting as the five precious loves were sleeping and twitching by her belly. I was worried, very worried.
Finally the contractions started again. I was with Lada, gently rubbing her belly to continue stimulation. The last puppy had a long way to go and the mother was getting depleted of her strength. Will it come out alive?
Lada gave out a scream as with every puppy coming out through her. I was right there ready to assist. Not even half way out the puppy was moving and fighting to break through. Lada violently started licking the sack and chewing through umbilical cord as if she knew time was precious. I had to pinch the cord at the pup’s belly for Lada not to rip it out from her tiny belly. All three of us were fighting for this little life. She was tiny but relentless. Shiny silver coat and absolutely beautiful. I named her Gaia - the primordial Earth goddess.
