Pete the Pup in 1934... but which Pete was he?

Many fans assume there was only one Pete the Pup, but by 1934, the dog wearing the famous ring around his eye was actually the second generation of Pete.

The original Pete, Pal the Wonder Dog, became a Hollywood icon in the late 1920s. After his career ended, his son—Lucenay's Peter—took over the role and carried on the beloved legacy.

So if you see a photo labeled "Pete the Pup, circa 1934," you're almost certainly looking at Pete II, the faithful companion who appeared alongside Spanky, Stymie, Dorothy, and the rest of the gang during the early 1930s.
