Mesh Size Matters: Finding the Right Fit for Your Herd! 🐴
Not sure which Hay Chix® mesh size is best for your horses or livestock? Here’s a quick breakdown using the Hay Chix® mesh sizing chart 👇
✅ 2 ½” – Our “large stock” net. Works great for cattle or animals just starting slow feeding. This is also a great mesh opening size for hard keepers.
✅ 1 ¾” – A solid “standard” mesh – slows down hay consumption without frustrating most horses.
✅ 1 ¼” – Great for easy keepers, minis, ponies, and horses needing extra slow feed control.
✅ 1" – Ideal for insulin resistance and/or metabolic horses and those confined to dry lots. Also works great for very easy keepers to slow them down.
🎯 Tips to help you choose:
Observe how quickly your herd eats loose hay
Consider body condition and weight goals. Is your horse too thin or an easy keeper?
Start with a larger mesh if they’re new to slow feeding
Remember, the goal is to mimic grazing.
Choosing the correct mesh size can make all the difference when it comes to hay waste, herd health, and feeding behavior.
