2026 Dental Promotion β January 2 through February 28, 2026!
Dental health is a vital part of your petβs overall well-being.
Cats and dogs commonly experience dental conditions such as gingivitis, periodontal disease, and (for cats) tooth resorption. These problems often begin with plaque and tartar buildup and can progress into severe pain, tooth loss, and even systemic infections that may affect the heart, liver, or kidneys if left untreated.
Because many pets hide signs of discomfort, early detection through regular veterinary check-ups is essential.
Common Dental Problems in Pets
β’ Gingivitis
Inflammation of the gums caused by plaque buildup. It can lead to redness and soreness and is often treatable with professional cleaning and medication when caught early.
β’ Periodontal Disease
A more advanced condition that develops from untreated gingivitis. It damages the supporting tissues, ligaments, and bone around the teeth and can lead to tooth loss. Treatment typically requires a professional dental cleaning under anesthesia.
β’ Tooth Resorption (Cats)
A painful condition in which a catβs tooth structure begins to break down. Treatment almost always involves extraction of the affected tooth.
β’ Fractured Teeth
Often caused by trauma or chewing hard objects. Fractures can expose the sensitive pulp and nerves, causing pain and potential infection.
β’ Malocclusion
Improper jaw alignment that may cause teeth to puncture the roof of the mouth or create deep pockets where bacteria accumulate.
β’ Abscessed Teeth
Severe infections that may arise from untreated dental issues. These typically require extraction and antibiotic treatment.
Signs of Dental Problems to Watch For:
Bad breath (halitosis)
Red, sore, or bleeding gums
Difficulty eating or reduced appetite
Drooling
Pawing at the mouth
Noticeable tartar buildup
Loose or missing teeth
Reduced grooming (especially in cats)
Weight loss
Facial swelling near the tooth roots
