Woohoo! Two more have joined the party and laid their first egg today!!! Meet Beatrice (Welsummer) and Bonnie (Ancona). Beatrice lays the “red” brown speckled eggs and Bonnie lays white. The dream of having that rainbow basket is getting closer and closer to becoming reality. To say I’m egg-cited is an understatement! Love these girls of mine. ☺️❤️🐓

Welcome home to me! Been out of the country for just over a week, both fearing and hoping The Sweet 16 girls would begin laying those first eggs. Well, they must have known how much I wanted to be the one to find them because tonight’s haul is the largest I’ve had thus far. The grand total: 11!

Meet Gertrude and Fawkes. They’re my Ameracaunas and the first of The Sweet 16 to lay. What color do they lay? So glad you asked. 😜 The answer: Blue!! My dream of that rainbow basket is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. So egg-cited for the rest to join in on paying rent…I mean the fun. 😏🤣🥰

And just like that, all 9 of my layers are laying! It’s been a long time in coming, but it was worth the wait! Now the next phase of waiting has begun for my Sweet 16 clutch to come of age and lay their first eggs. I don’t think this will ever get old; regardless how long I do this and how many chickens I have.

A little photo dump of how the weekend was spent. We’re getting closer and closer to The Sweet 16 being allowed to free range completely unsupervised! The Fab 5 and The Littles clutch ladies are still keeping the younger ones on their toes and letting them know just who it is that’s in charge; and it’s not the two-legged, featherless wonder that brings food and treats. 😂 Why did it take me so long to jump into the chicken mom life!?

Sweet 16 had an afternoon of supervised free range foraging. Something tells me they thoroughly enjoyed getting to search for bugs and explore the yard. The Fab 5 and Littles, although quick to establish pecking order, were more interested in foraging than interacting with their new friends (something the Sweet 16 seemed okay with). 😅 If only I could spend every day like this.

The Sweet 16 has moved into their permanent housing outside. It’s a bitter-sweet moment. Hard to believe they’re already old enough to go outside permanently. Can’t help but feel like they’re still those cute little fluff balls I picked up from the post office a little over a couple months ago. They seem to be enjoying all the fresh air, digging for bugs, extra room, and (some of them) antagonizing the older girls. 😅 It will be a few more weeks until they’ll be allowed to have supervised free range foraging time; but, for now, it’s fun to watch them explore their new environment. 🥰

Someone has decided to start pulling her weight and paying rent. Wild thang, Kya, has laid her first egg!!! By far, the most vocal of the bunch when singing her egg laying song; but, who’s complaining when you now have two blue eggs in the daily gathering? 😜☺️ Two down; two more to go!! love my lovely ladies!

Meet Agatha. Self-proclaimed head hen of the Sweet 16 clutch and definitely the feistiest of the bunch. Her calm state when being held is a trap carefully laid to lull you into a false sense of security. Fearless of all foes, big or small, and a finger annihilating master. Leave your hand unattended for more than a second while cleaning, and you’re in for a peck of pure unfiltered rebellious sass. Chicken teenagers…they’re real. 😜🐔❤️🤣

This is not a drill!! It’s happening!! After weeks of waiting in eager anticipation, and occasional threats 😜🤣, we have our FIRST BLUE EGG!!! Not 100% certain if it was Petunia or Kya, but my assumption is Kya as I found this little gem outside of the coop. 🤦🏽‍♀️At least she was close, right? 😅 Now just 3 more girls left in the Littles clutch until we’re in full swing! These girls are from and I would HIGHLY recommend them if you’re looking to add some variety to your egg basket and flock. They have a forever customer from me. 🥰 🐣

The Sweet 16 clutch is in full tween stage (trading their fluff for real feathers) and are now old enough to be slowly introduced to fruits, veggies, and worms. They are growing too fast! It’s already time to enlarge the brooder space and I’m trying to be okay with it. 😵‍💫😢😂 I’m in love with being a chicken mom. 🐥🐔❤️
