⚠️ 5 Beginner Aquarium Mistakes
1️⃣ Using Tap Water Without Conditioner
➡️ Tap water often contains chlorine or chloramine to clean the water for human consumption but is harmful to fish and beneficial bacteria.
Always use a water conditioner (PRIME) before adding water to your tank — it makes the water safe instantly. 💧
2️⃣ Overfeeding
➡️ Too much food leads to cloudy water and poor water quality along with high ammonia levels. Feed small amounts that fish eat within 1–2 minutes — once a day is plenty!
3️⃣ Not Testing the Water
➡️ Skipping water tests can cause hidden problems. Keep track of pH, ammonia, phosphate, nitrite, and nitrate levels — it’s the easiest way to prevent fish stress and disease.
4️⃣ Choosing the Wrong Fish Together
➡️ Some species don’t get along or have different care needs. Always ask before mixing — peaceful community fish are best for beginners.
5️⃣ Neglecting Maintenance
➡️ Cleaning the tank too rarely (or too thoroughly/often) can both cause issues. Change 25-50% of water monthly or as needed (around that range), and gently clean gravel and filters. Cleaning your gravel thoroughly with a siphon will help keep your tank clean longer.
