DOMINO!!!!

Most would be proud of the recall, I’m proud of hrr confidence to get this far away from me. I don’t want her to realize how far she went and panic… so a quick recall it is.

We not only provide training at our location but also at clients home; addressing concerns where they are happening.

Say hello to todays pups.

Archie is almost a year with no manners (he did quite well today) learning a few off limits behaviors.

Delila and Demi are 5 month old litter mates, today was the second session working working on confidence new situations including separated from each other, owner and kennel training.

Your Daily Anecdote:

Perseverence.

I am sure everyone has heard the old axioms about dog training- you need to be consistent, you need to be 'firm', you need to be sincere.

What you need more than any of those, is perseverance.

You need to last longer than the dog.

We had a young large-breed dog in today that liked to put the brakes on when it came to doing things she didn't like.

There was no cajoling, begging, swearing or threatening that would get this big gal's feet moving.

Except perseverance.

We made it inescapable, we made it desirable, we lasted longer than the dog.

We were consistent, we were 'firm', and we were sincere.

But most of all, we used her own tactic against her and persevered.

Wrestling a giant breed dog that weighs in excess of 130 pounds and is still growing is no joke.

Start early, stay till the work is done.

Vet schools need to teach a variety of surgical sterilization techniques for dogs (cats have a different reproductive cycle and are not as negatively impacted by having no s*x hormones throughout life).

Everyone agrees that dogs should not have unwanted litters, which means having dogs sterilized is a critical part of population control.
However, research shows the sterilization technique matters, when it comes to long-term health outcomes.

Traditional spaying and neutering (aka des*xing) are the only techniques vets are currently taught, and removing ALL s*x hormones, especially when dogs are very young, comes with a host of potential irreversible, lifelong consequences. A growing body of research shows that early neutering can cause long-term health and behavior problems in dogs due to their inability to produce s*x hormones.

Sterilization without g***d removal (i.e., hysterectomies for females, vasectomies for males) are better alternatives, for the preservation of important hormones, but these techniques aren’t taught in vet schools (yet). Read today’s free pet health blog (link below) to learn more about des*xing research, and how to support the hormones of your spayed/neutered pet.

Just a reminder after these past couple weeks of temperatures to be aware of stagnant water with your dogs. Blue-green algae is deadly to dogs. Many dogs are brain dead by the time they reach a vet.

Dogs can develop poisoning when they drink from, or even simply swim in, contaminated water sources. If blue-green algae is ingested, it can cause severe neurologic or liver damage or death.

Signs of blue-green algae toxicity include:

Seizures
Panting
Excessive drooling
Respiratory failure
Diarrhea
Disorientation
Vomiting
Liver failure
Ultimately death
