Today’s facts about the Poodle:
1. Though the poodle is the national dog of France, they originated from Germany.
2. The name Poodle is derived from the German word “Pudelhund” meaning splash dog.
3. During World War II, Standard Poodles were officially classified as war dogs by the U.S. Army through the Dogs for Defense program.
4. The poodles sense of smell is 100,000 times greater than a humans. A large portion of a Poodle's brain is dedicated to analyzing and decoding complex smells. This is why your poodle can be more exhausted and relaxed after a calm walk somewhere new over hard playing outside.
5. Poodles were and still are used for truffle hunting. Mushrooms and fungi smell “meaty and tasty” to poodles.
