Why do I suggest a vet visit before behavior modification?

Because dogs that are uncomfortable have a harder time learning.

Roger is my dog. He came to my home in April after displaying some concerning behavior with the toddler in his previous home.

He's loveable, friendly and loves my other dogs. But I did notice pretty early on that it was hard for him to settle. He would become over tired which led to some undesirable behavior. He would get rude with my other dogs, and had begun to resource guard me.

We got him up to date on vaccines, and had him neutered. We employed management strategies to keep everyone safe and happy while we were figuring this guy out.

On Tuesday, Roger went to the groomer. Our groomer informed us that the skin on his feet was inflamed and that his ears were sore.

One trip to the vet for allergy meds and ear drops and this boy is calmer and much less annoying to the rest of our dogs.
Does he still need training? Of course. But now he's got a much higher chance of being successful.

It's worth a trip to the vet to rule out physical discomfort. Especially if the undesirable behavior is new.

🌞🐾 **Hot Weather Alert for Dog Owners!** 🐾🌞

As the temperatures rise, it's essential to prioritize the safety and well-being of our furry friends. Here are some tips to keep your dogs cool and safe during these hot days:

1. **Hydration is Key:** Always provide fresh water and encourage your pup to drink regularly.

2. **Limit Outdoor Time:** Avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours. Early mornings or late evenings are best for walks.

3. **Shade and Cool Spots:** Ensure your dog has access to shaded areas and cool indoor spaces to relax.

4. **Never Leave Them in a Car:** Even for a few minutes, cars heat up quickly and can be deadly for pets.

5. **Watch for Signs of Overheating:** Be alert for excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy. If you notice these signs, cool your dog with water and seek veterinary help if needed.

Let's keep our pups safe and happy this summer! Share your favorite ways to keep your dog cool in the comments! 🐢❀️
