WHY YOUR MOTHER RABBIT MIGHT EAT ITS BABIES.

Rabbits can sometimes eat their own young. This is most likely to happen if your pet is feeling particularly anxious, lacks dietary protein, or has become excessively territorial.

Feed your rabbit a diet of Alfalfa hay in the days before the birth of her kits, or simply ensure it has enough feeds and water. This will prevent her from eating her young because she lacks nutrition. After giving birth, she’s likely to eat the placenta, but could eat a baby in error. Remove the kits if there are early warning signs.

Unlike hares, rabbits don’t eat meat. They’re not carnivorous animals, so they’ll very rarely eat their young by choice. It’s most likely to happen with young rabbits after giving birth to their first litter. The rabbit is frightened and confused by the experience, and just does what comes naturally to her.

MAKE YOUR RABBIT GAIN WEIGHT IN A HEALTHY WAY.

If you have a banana plantation, you shouldn't stress with rabbit food. Simply get raw bananas , cook them. After cooling, serve to your rabbits. However this is a treat, to be supplemented with other foods. This will make your rabbits gain healthy weight..not obesity. Avoid feeding your rabbits with over ripe bananas. This is because they have too much sugars.

Too much sugar and starch in a rabbit’s diet can lead to digestive problems, an upset stomach, gas and diarrhea. Sugar is also known to cause painful dental issues in rabbits that require veterinary attention.

Furthermore, excess starch and sugar are converted to fat in a rabbit’s body. This can lead to unnecessary weight gain and obesity. Obesity is linked to a wide array of debilitating issues, such as pododermatites, GI stasis, pregnancy toxemia, and myiasis.

Avoid feeding your rabbits overripe bananas, banana chips, banana treats, banana bread and other prepared banana foods as they’re often high in sugar, starch, sodium, and fat.

Feed them with cooked/steam boiled raw bananas.

Someone asked me why his rabbits bite and chew cage wood. Does your rabbit also do that?

It is natural for both rabbits and guinea pigs to chew. Their teeth continue to grow throughout their lives so they must chew almost constantly to keep them worn down to a healthy length.

If their teeth grow too long, they can become sharp and cause painful ulcers on their cheeks and tongue.

Why is My Rabbit or Guinea Pig Chewing its Hutch?

Rabbits and guinea pigs can chew their hutch excessively if they are feeling bored or frustrated. This can be caused by not having regular interaction with other pets or people.

It can also be caused by being in their hutch 24/7 and not having time outside or floor time to exercise.

Baby rabbits and guinea pigs are more likely to chew their enclosure and will often grow out of the habit. Females generally chew more than males. Non-desexed rabbits and guinea pigs chew more than those that are desexed.

Therefore the only way to prevent them from chewing cage wood is obviously to provide some wood in the cage for chewing.
