The Rest of Xan's Story

Read part one in my earlier blog posts 📖.

Xan was born the tiniest, with muted, grayish fur and faint stripes 🐭. But at 6 months, his expressive, deep gaze had already captured my heart ❤️, and he outgrew all four of his littermates in size and weight 😊.

His remarkable growth comes from his champion parents 🌟: Korucats Ezy on My Mind (New Zealand 🇳🇿) and Wysswand Alessandra (Italy 🇮🇹). Xan taught me a key lesson: a kitten's look can change a lot before 4 months, but the parents 👨‍👩‍👦 always hint at their future potential 💫.

Ксан родился самым маленьким, с тусклой сероватой шерстью и едва заметными полосками 🐭. Но в 6 месяцев его выразительный, глубокий взгляд уже покорил моё сердце ❤️, и он обогнал всех четверых своих однопомётников по размеру и весу 😊.

How I Found My Breed: The Toyger

Many breeders probably have a similar story—and I'm no exception. I first learned about Toygers completely by chance: I stumbled upon a description of the breed on a cat website. I was immediately struck by the fact that I had never seen these cats at shows before, and their appearance—the bright wild color and distinct tiger stripes—looked so unusual that it utterly captivated me.

That was back in 2015. Almost ten years have passed since then, and I have dedicated all this time to breeding these amazing cats—miniature tigers with hearts of gold. 🐯💛

Как я нашла для себя породу тойгер?

Наверное, у многих заводчиков есть похожая история — и я не исключение. Впервые я узнала о тойгерах совершенно случайно: наткнулась на описание породы на одном из сайтов о кошках. Меня сразу поразило, что раньше я никогда не встречала этих кошек на выставках, а их внешность — яркий дикий окрас и чёткие тигриные полосы — выглядела настолько необычно, что буквально заворожила.

Это было в 2015 году. С тех пор прошло почти десять лет, и всё это время я посвятила разведению этих удивительных кошек — миниатюрных тигров с золотым сердцем. 🐯💛

What Stripes Should You Choose for a Toyger: Black or Brown? 🐅

A Toyger's stripes change throughout its life. The contrast of a bright kitten will decrease by 2–4 months due to "fuzzing" — a protective down 🐱.

The coat color then improves. Around one year, the first molt begins (1–2 months), and the stripes may dull. Proper care, diet, and bathing are important for a quick coat renewal 🧥✨.

Adult cats molt each year in the warm season. For shows or photos 📸🏆, consider this period to showcase the full beauty of their "tiger" coat.

Полосы тойгера меняются всю жизнь. Контраст яркого котёнка уменьшится к 2–4 месяцам из-за «фазинга» — защитного пуха 🐱.

Затем окрас улучшается. Около года начинается первая линька (1–2 мес.), и полосы могут потускнеть. Важен уход, питание и купание для быстрой смены шерсти 🧥✨.

Взрослые кошки линяют каждый год в теплое время. Для выставок или фото 📸🏆 учитывайте этот период, чтобы показать всю красоту «тигриной» шубки.

Why Do Toyger Kittens Have Such Big Ears? 👂

Yes, this is a follow-up to my previous post about my first Toygers. My cats came to me at the age of 7–10 months, and I was very upset: they had simply enormous ears! And for a Toyger, that's almost a catastrophe — according to the breed standard, their ears should be small.

But with time and experience, I understood an important thing: in cats, the ears grow the fastest, and the skull only "catches up" in development by the age of two. That's exactly what happened with my first Toygers — Jango, Ateya, and Jipsey. By the age of two, they had developed neat little ears and a beautiful, expressive "tiger-like" face.

By the way, my pioneers are already retired 🐾 and enjoy supervised free-roaming in my backyard.

Почему у тойгеров в юности такие большие уши? 👂

Да, это продолжение предыдущего поста про моих первых тойгеров. Мои питомцы приехали ко мне в возрасте 7–10 месяцев, и я была расстроена: у них были просто огромные уши! А для тойгера это почти катастрофа — по стандарту породы уши должны быть маленькими.

Но со временем и с опытом я поняла важную вещь: у кошек уши растут быстрее всего, а череп «догоняет» их в развитии только к двум годам. Именно это и произошло с моими первыми тойгерами — Джанго, Атэей и Джипси. К двум годам у них сформировались аккуратные маленькие ушки и красивая, выразительная «тигриная» морда.

Кстати, мои первопроходцы уже на пенсии 🐾 и наслаждаются свободным выгулом в моем заднем дворе под присмотром.

How It All Began: The First Toygers of Brindleway Cattery

My journey with Toygers — and thus, the story of the Brindleway cattery — began with three remarkable cats. They were the male Aluren Jango and two females: Aluren Ateya and Aluren Jipsey. They flew to us in Ukraine all the way from the USA, from the state of New Jersey 🗽✈️.

I am endlessly grateful to Pat Killmaier for her trust and for the opportunity to acquire these cats for breeding. After all, it's rare for a breeder to agree to sell animals for breeding purposes to a new, unknown cattery. Perhaps our dialogue only became possible because of my prior experience working with Scottish Folds, Ragdolls, and even Irish Setters 🐕. That played a key role, and I was very fortunate that Pat agreed to collaborate with me.

If you ever consider doing breeding work, be prepared: you will need serious preparation. Both in terms of deep knowledge about the breed and in terms of creating ideal conditions for the life and breeding of your animals 🏡📚.

Meet our king — Brindleway XAN. 👑

Born in our cattery, he carries a unique legacy: New Zealand genes & a rare, perfect white belly from Italian Toyger lines.

He started as the smallest, greyest kitten. But at 3 months, his unique hooded eyelids appeared — a first for our cattery, and a reason he stayed with us.

By 5 months, his bright coat blossomed, and he outpaced his brothers in size. Today, he’s our largest male.

His offspring inherit his majestic look — a true testament to his royal genes. Swipe to see the king and his legacy.

К 5 месяцам его окрас стал ярким, и он обогнал братьев в росте. Сегодня это самый крупный производитель у нас.

🐾 1-3 mos. — Baby explorer. First stripes appear.
🐅3-6 mos. — Rapid growth. Stripes darken, muscles strengthen.
🐯6-9 mos. — Teenager. Develops an elongated "tiger-like" body.
✨9-12 mos. — Young adult. Personality is set, but this is only 50% of their beauty!

❗ Key fact: Their full, powerful "tiger" look isn't complete until age 2! It's a long but amazing journey.
