The Arden breed originates from the prehistoric ancient forest horse Solutre, from which it inherited its weight, size and disposition. Also, the forest horse is the ancestor of another Belgian breed - the Brabancon. It is believed that the Ardenes were brought out more than 2000 years ago, more precisely, they were the ancestors of the modern Ardenes. Julius Caesar also describes them, calling the Belgian horses simple, strong and tireless and advising to use them in heavy cavalry. Centuries later, Roman emperors still followed Caesar's advice. These horses were smaller than modern horses and reached a height at the withers of only 142 cm.
