Some truth about watermelon 🍉

Last call for watermelon as the summer winds down! One thing people are often surprised to learn is that watermelon isn’t just a sweet, hydrating fruit: it’s also a concentrated source of unique phytonutrients.

🍉 Lycopene powerhouse
Cup for cup, watermelon contains more lycopene than raw tomatoes. Lycopene is a red plant pigment and antioxidant that has been studied for its potential roles in cellular protection, skin health, and cardiovascular wellness.

💧 Hydration + electrolytes
With more than 90% water, watermelon is nature’s thirst quencher. It also provides electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, which help maintain fluid balance, muscle function, and resilience in hot weather.

🌿 Citrulline connection
Watermelon is one of the only fruits that provides citrulline, an amino acid that supports nitric oxide pathways, connected to blood vessel relaxation, circulation, and exercise recovery.

✨ Things to keep in mind
Because watermelon is high on the glycemic index, large servings may raise blood sugar in some individuals. Its natural FODMAPs can cause digestive discomfort in sensitive guts. And since it’s a source of potassium, those with kidney concerns or on certain medications may need to moderate their intake.

So, watermelon isn’t just a refreshing snack: it’s a phytonutrient-packed food that offers hydration, circulation support, and antioxidant activity, best enjoyed with mindfulness of your unique body.

Important information for us as food producers, agriculturalists, farmers, gardeners, and naturalists to consider as we move into unchartered and, at times, unfriendly territory.

Our weather patterns have become unpredictable and irrational.
Our rate of adaptation too slow to stem the rapid onslaught of change already at our shores.

Concerned?
Interested?
Motivated?

We couldn't keep the coco water in stock beyond the morning period and by the time the afternoon sun hit, the juices were all but gone too. All in all, with your generous support, we completely sold out of all our goodness.

for sure!

Three principles which I find important for everyone regardless of the diet they subscribe to are the following:

🌈Color: Choosing whole food plant colors of different parts of the spectrum and even different shades and saturation within one color

🧡Creativity: Bringing play and novelty into every meal through combining foods, flavors, and textures for a sensory experience; and using intuition ("going with the flow") in food preparation

✨Variety: Selecting from a wide variety of different plant foods to get a full complement of phytonutrients for healthy structure and function in the body
