PSA official release :
Members of the Public , in light of recent statements made by individuals on a particular social post . I’m here to respond accordingly.
It’s disheartening to say the least that an animal must suffer or be subjected to neglect . I’m here to share the events that occurred 6 days ago that sparked this commotion.
Animal owner and Facebook post owner Azis Karim and associates (Jeremy Sookraj and Mr Karim’s wife ) contacted me at 10:43pm at night to respond to an emergency call involving their 13 year old dog . The dog was reported to be “stuck in a drain “ 12 hours prior to visiting me for a very long period of time in which weather conditions on Monday proved to be horrendous with flood waters rushing down the drain , “beating on the animal “ .
Which resulted in the animal swallowing a large quantity of this dirty water filled with pollutants and toxins . As a diligent pet owner , the first response would be to remove the animal from the drain and seek immediate veterinary attention . However this was not done !!! The animal ,without the ability to stand ,was left recumbent on the floor and given oral rehydrating fluids in order to “ ketch back himself” . After already swallowing an enormous quantity of dirty water .
Arriving at my home at 11:21 pm and lamenting to me that they tried contacting over 45 vets who never answered and some who just weren’t available. I proceeded to fully examine the animal , which showed large copious amounts of fluid in the lungs on auscultation , a stomach distended with fluid ( if you palpated /pressed too hard ,the animal will involuntarily start to froth at the mouth). Body temperature extremely high at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Hyperemic , reddened mucous membranes ,tachycardia (heart pounding out of his chest ) and tachypnea ( severe respiratory distress) and displaying Ataxia ( incoordination of the head and nystagmus( fluttering of the eyes ) . Bear in mind this is a 13 year old patient .
After examination I explained thoroughly that the animal showed a great deal of pain and suffering and it would be advised to consider euthanasia due to a poor prognosis and an advanced stage of deterioration based on clinical signs. However the owner refused and preferred treatment as well as rushing me to do so incessantly . As a strong advocate for animal welfare I hesitated based on the plea to save the animals life . So I gave in and tried a suitable treatment protocol .After administration, I reiterated the risk, prognosis and the aftercare that needed to be instituted. In the morning , receiving a disturbing call that the animal had just died at 6:30 am and the owner furious . Cursing and attaching blame to me that the treatment did not work and the animal died because of me !
The client soon after showed up infront of my home ,violently pounding my glass window . I came out calmly ; he’s cursing , inciting violence and threatening my life , my attempt at de-escalating the matter was to no avail. After making a report at the nearby police station , the drama cessated , only to return to social media in attempt at making a defamatory post and gaining followers to support his cause .
There is a beautiful saying that “Doctors are the closest thing to god “ . But instantaneous miracles are gods job.
In my defense :
Wasn’t it necessary to seek immediate veterinary medical attention instead of waiting 12 hours ?
Was it not also pertinent to pay attention to flood warning given by the met office (Adverse Weather Alert #1 - YELLOW Level Adverse Weather - Sun, Jun 22, 2025 2:00 PM to Mon, Jun 23, 2025 2:00 PM) ?
Wasn’t it necessary to know you have an advanced age animal and to secure your surroundings to mitigate incidences like this ?
And now bringing an animal estimated at 90%
Fatality and poor prognosis to be miraculously saved .
After trying my absolute best to facilitate at that hour , examine and treat , I am now being blamed .
Members of the public , I am deeply saddened by these events , however the circumstances were overwhelming ,but the owners neglect is beyond excusable.
This is not the first instance in which I’ve seen neglect , 70% of the comments I viewed on that faithful social media post is filled with neglect , filled with animosity dealt to me whilst just like karim , not paying attention to routine procedures such as :
Vaccination ( which prevents parvovirus and other integral and preventable illnesses)
Tick and flea prevention -Bravecto ( which reduces the likelihood of tick fever )
Additionally :
If you know your animal is pregnant and close to due date or is burdened by a severe disease which requires 24 hour monitoring in case of medical or surgical intervention , why not liase with your primary vet and arrange 24 hour monitoring and stay abreast of the clinical signs and acquire a reliable contact for them incase of such emergency.
But this is never done , the lackadaisical culture we possess doesn’t permit perseverance and attention to detail.
This is why I started a 24/7 SERVICE years ago . A reliable one at that. To mitigate the heartbreak of watching your animal perish instead of giving them atleast a fighting chance of survival, for unforeseen circumstances that is also not in YOUR control. (Poisoning , hit by car , seizures due to fireworks , late night IV fluid resuscitation for conditions such as parvovirus and much much much more.)
Due to the nature of crime in the country it is unsafe to be stationed at a clinic late nights . Which would require armed security and other hired staff . If a service like this were to be instituted for emergencies it would be terribly expensive in which majority of the commenters on the faithful post would refuse to pay.
Imagine , I’ve humbly and generously given everyone for years the ability to facilitate coming for treatment AT MY HOME , invading my time and personal space to accomodate YOU ,the public , (even if it’s at my front door ,something is better than nothing ). After countless clinics and your personal vet never answered their phones (not blaming them , vets have a life too, a family too, priorities and responsibilities),After that it’s saddening to see those responses .
My methods are not unorthodox, it follows standard procedure and protocol , in emergency situations certain considerations are made based on the circumstances present.
To my colleagues who I also observe adding insult to injury , I am disappointed in the comments that were made as professional conduct dictates that this was not the right forum to voice your ill informed opinions and preconceived notions. I expect better .
In conclusion :
Members of the public , bear in mind , there are ALWAYS two sides to a story . Do not believe everything you read on social media . This agenda of defamation is designed to pray on your sentiment for animals.
UNDERSTAND THIS :
It will never be an intention for a doctor to hurt , or cause pain or suffering , it will always be to heal , not every treatment is guaranteed , not every animal can be saved .
My dedication to making veterinary medical and surgical treatments as affordable as possible to people who cannot afford it, continues to be my humble mission, because every animal deserves it .
