Directions to Wa Samaki Ecosystems
Please call (868) 673 - 4180 or (868) 373 - 2890 to arrange an appointment before visiting. From Northern Trinidad proceed south on the Uriah Butler highway. Exit at the Freeport intersection which is the exit after Chase Village / Carlsonfield. You will come to a 4 way intersection (turning right at this point would take you under the highway, do not go that way

). Proceed straight through this intersection in a southerly direction (you are now parallel to the highway) which will put you onto Mission Road. Drive south 4 km on Mission Road and you will reach a 4 way intersection with a small Freeport Todds Road sign and a Lakshmi Narayan temple sign on the left hand side (if you reach a large 3 way junction that is surrounded by a number of bars and leads to Chicklands, you have gone too far). There is also an EXCEL battery sign painted on the wall on the corner! Turn left onto Freeport Todds Rd (also locally called Siewdass Rd) and drive down another 4 km. You will pass through a few small villages and eventually be out in farmland. You will pass a huge Hindu temple construction site on your right hand side. You will come to a large fork in the road with some tall Royal palm trees behind a light and dark blue WASA pumphouse . Turn left here and drive down about 15 meteres. We are the large white house directly behind the pumphouse. There are 3 tall palmiste palms and a pine tree growing in front of our house. Look for the Wa Samaki Permaculture sign on the first gate or Wa Samaki Ecosystems sign on the second gate. Please honk your horn at either the first or second gate. The location on the google map is approximate. The marker would not move to the exact location. Please follow the written directions and you will get to the farm. From southern Trinidad, drive north on the Uriah Butler Highway. Exit at the Freeport exit (the exit after Preysal / Couva). Turn Right which will take you under the highway and immediately turn right again to put you on Mission Road. Now follow the directions above from Mission Road.

This pair of Kelberi have been consistently great parents since they started spawning 2 months ago! They even managed to keep a 10 inch red tail catfish away from the eggs the whole incubation period!

Just tilapia for now. A regenerating sand quarry in Barbados . Check previous post for details. What fish would you recommend for a ph8 tropical lake

15 years ago there was no surface water on this site. It used to be a sand quarry. The last stage of mining created this 10 acre pond. It is now becoming an ecotourism site . Its a project I have been involved with where we have slowly introduced aquatic plants and guppies to keep down mosquitos. At some point tilapia got introduced! A lot of aquatic birds now make it their home. Osprey are overhead, migratory birds fly through on their way to South America and then back North. Future plans are to introduce a variety of species of fish to create a functional aquatic ecosystem. There are very few indigenous strictly freshwater fish in Barbados. It will be an interesting experiment.Stay tuned 😁
