Elephant bathing with people is never a good idea!

They are still wild animals, and they are not for entertaiment .

Education is the key to understand wildlife.
But sometimes you only wake up when you see a accident.

Connect...Respect...Protect....

Be the change, it starts with you

In Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, wildlife caretaker Elias Mbeki suddenly collapsed while repairing a damaged water pipe near one of the elephant migration paths. He had been working alone that afternoon, and when he failed to return by sunset, park staff began searching the area.

Hours later, rangers heard something unusual echoing through the plains — repeated elephant trumpeting coming from the same location over and over again.

When the rescue team arrived, they discovered an old bull elephant standing beside the unconscious caretaker. The elephant, known to locals as “Jabari,” refused to leave Elias’ side. Trail camera footage later showed the elephant pacing around him anxiously, loudly calling out for hours, and charging at hyenas that attempted to approach during the night.

Rangers believe the elephant’s nonstop distress calls are what ultimately led the search team directly to them. Even after vehicles and medics arrived, Jabari stayed only a few feet away, watching closely as rescuers treated Elias and carried him onto a stretcher.

Park officials later revealed that Elias had rescued Jabari many years earlier after the elephant became trapped in a poacher’s pit as a calf. Staff members said the elephant would often recognize Elias’ voice immediately whenever he visited the herd.

One ranger who witnessed the rescue said quietly:
“That elephant knew something was wrong… and he refused to let his friend die alone.”

Elias survived after receiving emergency treatment, and according to caretakers, Jabari still visits the same area frequently, often stopping silently near the water pipe where the rescue happened.

Animals never forget the people who show them kindness. ❤️

🌿Our team is growing 🌿

Meet Klahan,

Our newest manager at Somboon,
One of our dedicated mahout who joined our team after the relocation. With over two decades of experience working with elephants, he brings deep knowledge, patience and care. Our sanctuary is truly grateful to have him with us.

He has spent most of his life understanding their behavior, needs and emotions.

The life of a mahout in Thailand is not easy. Many are still discriminated against, and even basic human rights can be difficult for them to access. This is why one of our missions is not only to care for the elephants, but also to support the people who dedicate their lives to them — fighting for their rights, dignity and equality. 💚

Welcome to Somboon, Klahan!🐘
Welcome to the family!🐘💚🌿

MEET AREE,

A 20-year-old girl whose connection to elephants runs deep,

This is a really special story in Somboon’s history💚
Twenty years ago, Aree’s parents used to take care of our elephants.
Two decades later, Aree felt a strong wish to find them again,
.and she did - at Somboon!💚🌿

From now on, she is our newest member of the sanctuary.

Say hi to Aree,
We are so happy for you,
Welcome back to the elephant family!🐘💚

What a unique story✨

On our new land, we built an observation tower designed to let guests admire elephants from a respectful distance, without interfering with their natural behavior.
Here, they are free to roam, wander, and simply be wild. Because true ethical travel means observing gently, respecting space, and putting animal welfare first. 🐘🌿
