Welcome to Songkran Festival 2014 at Chiangmai Zoo
In Songkran Festival, you are invited to join us for the celebration of the Tradition Thai New Year at Chiangmai Zoo on 13th-16th of April, 2014.
Songkran Festival or the Tradition Thai New Year is also known as “Pi Mai Muang” in Northern Thai language Songkran is an important tradition for Thai families. Songkran provides the opportunity for family reunion. On this occasion, the young generations will return from other places to their hometowns. Songkran festival takes place on April 13 every year. Songkran is a Thai word means to "move" or "change place" as it is the day the sun changes its position in the zodiac. Additionally, it was called “Water Festival” because Thai people believe that the Songkran tradition of sprinkling water on elders asks for the blessings or good luck as part of the cleansing ritual.
Thus, Chiangmai Zoo welcomes all people to come and join us for the Songkran Festival Celebration 2014.
Many activities as below:
1. Sprinkle Thai scented water on a Buddha image of city from Wat Chai Mongkol, Wat Duang Dee, Wat mun Ngeun Khong and Wat Dubpai
2. Sprinkle water on elders for blessing
3. Experience the cultural performances and traditional in Northern style
4. Building sand pagodas sprinkled with scented water and decorated withflags and banners
5. See animal zodiac
6. Donate food to animal zodiac such as rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, dog and pig.
7. Take a photo with a sheep and closely feed them
