I often say that the future of animal welfare is in the hands of the next generation, and this is exactly why.
I was delighted to see Francesca Haldane, Shreya Patel and Rudi Bruijn-Yard announced as the winners of this year's WVS Global Challenge Award at the BVA Awards in Birmingham.
Their proposal focuses on tackling Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in Uganda through a combination of vaccination and education. PPR is a highly contagious disease that affects goats and sheep and can have devastating consequences for both animals and the people who depend on them.
For many families, livestock are far more than animals. They are a source of food, income and opportunity. When disease strikes, the impact can be felt throughout entire communities.
This project recognises that connection. It is about improving animal health while also helping to protect livelihoods and strengthen communities.
The project will receive funding of up to £100,000 and everyone at WVS is excited to help turn their vision into reality.
