🦔🐶🍂 Autumn is coming...Got hedgehogs visiting your garden and a dog at home?

A little extra care can make a big difference. Hedgehogs are mostly active at night, so if you know they’re visiting, keep an eye on your dog when they’re outside after dark. A curious dog can easily frighten or injure a hedgehog, while those spines can cause an uncomfortable surprise for your dog!

If your dog does find one, calmly call them away and give the hedgehog space. And if you find a hedgehog that looks injured, unwell or is struggling, contact your local wildlife rescue for advice.

We recently built a hedgehog box and it has become a popular place of respite when Freddie is outside.

Here at the Gamble household, we’ve had some unexpected visitors… Hedgehogs 🦔

You may have seen on my feed, WVS recently visited Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue . Many of their little patients had arrived dehydrated, exhausted and in urgent need of their help following the hot weather.

Since then, I’ve had a few visitors of my own in the back garden! Thankfully, they were found unharmed by Freddie. It’s a lovely reminder that wildlife can need a helping hand too.

Getting the spotlight this Saturday: a new chapter for rabies control in Kochi.

I just had to share what Mission Rabies India had posted. They are joining forces with Animal Rescue Kochi (ARK) through a new Memorandum of Understanding.

Collaboration is such an important part of creating lasting change. By combining expertise, resources and local knowledge, the teams can build on the incredible work already happening across Kochi to protect both animals and communities from rabies.

From mass dog vaccination and rabies awareness to responsible animal welfare and sustainable prevention, this partnership is a fantastic step forward.

Huge congratulations to everyone involved. I’m excited to see what can be achieved together!

I’ve faced plenty of setbacks over the years, and not all of them have been easy to overcome.

When work takes you across different countries, cultures and communities, you quickly learn that there will always be challenges, differences of opinion and moments that test your resolve. But I’ve always believed that if you stay focused on why you started, you can find a way forward.

In July, Mission Rabies teams reached 19,799 people across India with vital rabies prevention information.

From Primary Health Centres and doorstep awareness campaigns to conversations with street vendors, auto drivers and park visitors, life-saving messages were taken directly into communities.

Because awareness is one of our most powerful tools in the fight against rabies 💙

This was the belief of a trainee teacher at Battambang Teacher Education College in Cambodia after being scratched by a pet dog until the skin bled.

Later that same day, a Mission Rabies education session explained how rabies can potentially be transmitted through scratches if infectious saliva is present.

Realising the risk, the trainee teacher immediately went to hospital to receive a rabies vaccination.

The experience is a powerful reminder that understanding rabies isn't just about learning facts. It's about knowing when to take action 🐶🩵
