Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)

Happy Veterinary Technician Week!

Y’all make my job look easy!

I have learned so much from the technicians I have worked with through the years.

Thank you for all the long hours, hitting the veins I couldn’t hit, puppy snuggles, kitten nose boops, crying for our patients, reading cytologies and fecals, running my labwork, taking histories when clients “only want to speak to the Dr”, calling back clients to answer their questions and ease their minds-so I can call owners with sometimes bad news, making me laugh when we have long busy days, laughing at the same weird jokes and most of all- being awesome human beings that LOVE all their patients.

Please know that I appreciate everything y’all do everyday!
I would not be the doctor I am today without you! ❤️

Fireworks aren't a symbol of celebration for everyone! Symptoms of noise aversion include hiding; vocalizing and shaking or trembling. They may also vomit, urinate, or defecate. Some pets may act out, damaging furniture, or other items in their surroundings.

It’s a common condition—one study found that 40% of dogs may suffer from some degree of noise aversion—and one with possibly serious health implications, indicates a study that shows that noise aversion in dogs could be a sign of serous pain.

There are simply no words. 💔 My heart is broken for this vet hospital in Kentucky.

The details of this tragic event are horrific. Dispute over cost of services to be paid, a innocent team member was shot trying to protect his team & family (his mom is a vet tech). He died in his mother’s arms.

This is my Alma Mater. While this is not the same physical building I attended high school in, the heart and drive for success has continued to shine through this community. For many years Woodmont High was underserved and under funded but still produced incredible students and humans that are continually giving back & go on to do great things. So proud of these educators and my hometown.

Every Veterinarian relies on their support staff to help them manage through their days, but relief veterinarians might lean on them more than most.

Relief vets travel to different clinics to help them keep doors open, pets cared for, staff employed, and pet owners relieved to continue to have somewhere to take their pets to for care when the owner or other veterinarians need to be out of the office.

When relief vets are in a new clinic we often only get a quick tour and run down of invoicing protocols for the clinic. Nearly all other aspects of the flow of your day is run by your assigned veterinary technician.

Veterinary technicians will orient the relief doctor on the hospital, help take histories, restrain for exams, perform treatments, fill prescription medications and answer questions owners might have after speaking with the doctor.

All of these tasks are just a small part of their job, but I think the most important part they play for relief vets is continuity of care.

When the clients see an unfamiliar face or different doctor’s name on the invoice, they can feel comforted to know their veterinary technician is there to keep the pets and owners calm and maintain confidence in the relief doctors’ exam and findings.

I am so incredibly thankful for all my veterinary technicians, veterinary nurses and veterinary assistants I have worked with for the past 13 years as a doctor and not to mention the many others before I was Doctor Mucci.
