🚨 THE DOUBLE DAPPLE PROBLEM
At Wiener Crew Rescue™, we are seeing more dogs come through rescue with disabilities and congenital health issues linked to irresponsible breeding decisions.
And that is the part people do not always see.
A double dapple dachshund can be produced when two dapple-pattern dogs are bred together, and that pairing can significantly increase the risk of serious congenital problems.
That can include:
👁️ vision impairment, malformed eyes or missing eyes
👂 deafness or hearing impairment
🩺 lifelong medical needs
🧡 additional support throughout the dog’s life
Not every double dapple dog will have the same difficulties, and dogs born with disabilities are no less deserving of love, care or a beautiful life.
But rescues are increasingly left to pick up the pieces when breeders make choices based on colour, novelty or profit instead of health and genetics.
We see the dogs who need specialist vet care.
We see the dogs who need extra time, training and support.
We see the families who were never properly informed.
And we see the rescue system carry the cost when breeders walk away.
This is why colour should never come before welfare.
A “rare” coat is not more important than genetics.
A fashionable puppy is not worth knowingly increasing the risk of disability.
And responsible breeding starts long before puppies are advertised for sale.
For the dogs already born with disabilities, our message is just as important:
They still deserve safe homes, patient people and the chance to be deeply loved.
If you are open to adopting a dog with additional needs, please consider one of these special sausages. Rescue dogs with disabilities can live incredibly full, joyful lives with the right support.
At Wiener Crew Rescue™, we will keep advocating for the dogs who are left carrying the consequences of irresponsible breeding.
Breed responsibly. Never dapple to dapple.

The more people understand the risks, the fewer dogs rescue should have to catch after preventable breeding decisions.
