⚠️ 4 Important Precautions for Veterinary Acupuncture
Before we begin the treatment, please check if your pet falls into any of these categories to ensure their utmost safety.
1. Pregnancy
This is critical! Please inform our veterinarians immediately if you suspect your pet is pregnant. Certain acupoints can stimulate uterine contractions, which may lead to miscarriage or premature labor. However, with a specialist's guidance, other specific points can safely support prenatal health.
2. Open Wounds or Infected Skin
We do not insert needles directly into areas with active skin infections, pus, open wounds, or tumors. Needle insertion in these areas could potentially introduce bacteria or aggravate the existing condition.
3. Bleeding Disorders
Pets with blood clotting issues (such as severe Thrombocytopenia or Hemophilia) should avoid or be treated with extreme caution. Although the needles are ultra-fine, they can still cause internal bruising or prolonged bleeding in pets with these conditions.
4. Critical Emergencies
Acupuncture is not for pets in acute shock, severe dehydration, or those who have just suffered major trauma (e.g., fresh bone fractures). In these cases, emergency life-saving measures and conventional medicine must take priority. Once the pet is stable, acupuncture can then be used for rehabilitation.

⏱️ Does animal acupuncture take a long time?
Typically, a veterinary acupuncture session is a relatively quick and stress-free process. The time the needles remain in place is usually about 15–20 minutes, but we recommend allowing 30–45 minutes for the entire appointment from start to finish.
Here is a breakdown of the process:
• Needle Insertion: This takes only a few minutes. Our veterinarians will gently place the needles at specific acupoints with a very light touch.
• Needle Retention: This is the most crucial phase. The needles remain in place for approximately 15–20 minutes (or slightly longer depending on the case) to ensure continuous stimulation. During this time, most pets become deeply relaxed and will lie down quietly.
• Electroacupuncture (Optional): If your pet requires electrical stimulation to enhance the treatment, it is performed during the retention phase and typically lasts about 10–20 minutes.

🩺 Does Veterinary Acupuncture Hurt?
The Truth Behind the Common Misconception
The number one concern for pet owners when acupuncture is recommended is: "Will it hurt my pet?" In reality, acupuncture is a much gentler procedure than most imagine.
1. Needles as Thin as a Hair
The needles used in veterinary acupuncture are ultra-fine and flexible—significantly smaller than the hypodermic needles used for vaccinations. Because they cause minimal tissue displacement, most pets hardly notice when the needles are inserted.
2. A "Tiny Pinch" Sensation
At the moment of insertion, there may be a split-second sensation similar to a mild mosquito bite. However, once the needle reaches the specific acupoint, the body’s nervous system begins to shift into a state of relaxation rather than pain.
3. Not Painful... but "Pleasurable"
The mechanism of acupuncture triggers the natural release of Endorphins (the body's natural "feel-good" chemicals). This induces a deep sense of calm, eases muscle tension, and reduces chronic pain. It is very common for our patients to become so relaxed that they drift into a peaceful sleep during their session. 💤
