🚨 Did you know that a urinary obstruction can be life-threatening for your pet within 24 to 48 hours? 🚨
It is common to see patients who have spent hours straining without success. Many pet parents confuse this with constipation, but the reality is critical.
📌 Why does it happen?
In both dogs and cats, males have a longer, narrower urethra. This makes it easier for small sediments, urinary crystals, or mucus to form a blockage. In cats, the emotional factor is massive: severe stress can trigger feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) and obstruct the urinary tract.
⚠️ Essential red flags:
Excessive visits to the litter box or attempting to urinate outside of it.
Crying or whimpering while straining.
Constant licking of the ge***al area.
Blood in the urine (Hematuria).
Prevention through proper hydration, an appropriate diet, and stress management is key. If you suspect an obstruction, time is life. Seek veterinary care immediately!
