Thank you so much for all your kind words and support yesterday after sharing the news about Pancake. It was hard and emotional day. Right after returning from vet with empty crate, I had to pull up my sleeves and sort all of Pancakes stuff. Only after I was done I crashed on the couch and mourned her properly 😢
Today it is better mostly thanks to these 2 pure souls Bean 🤍 and Marshie 🤍 who crack me up with their antics ( i'll share later :))
Bean doesn't leave my side and keeps me company while I work as if she feels that I need her. Everything is easier to endure with these feather babies.
(Sharing tips how to sanitize in case of potential infectious quail illness : quarantine is a must, ideally separate rest of the flock behind 2 closed doors - we keep them inside our flat that's why I say behind doors, but other side of garden/property is also fine. We usually divide duties with hubby- if possible 1 person tends to healthy flock only and 1 person to sick ones. Rubber gloves, veterinary desinfectant are used daily. Never use same sponge/towel or scoop/showel/rake of sick bird's enclosure equipment on other stuff. Always wash hands properly with veterinary hand soap after manipulating with sick bird or it's equipment. If any dirt or spill on clothes, change and wash them. Once healed...or otherwise...equipment made of porous materials - for example fabrics, sponges used for washing- is dumped/recycled, rest like glass/pottery or porcelain and quality plastic equipment is washed item by item, put aside once washed to not contaminate again with rest of dirty stuff. Desinfecting all bowls, feeder, waterer with strong chemical desinfectant, ideally veterinary quality, you can also use chlorine or alcohol or vinegar - be sure not to mix them and not inhale fumes and avoid chemical fumes close to birds - it can be life threatening. We have fan extractor in washroom and big window straight across the room to avoid fumes intoxication. I will usually do 2 rounds of this desinfection and rinse with boiling water.)
