Vznikol spojením teriérov typu Americký pitbull teriér a Americký staffordshire teriér.Americký bully je dobromyseľný, zábavný, veľmi lojálny a prítulný člen rodiny. Je presvedčený, ale nie agresívny, toto plemeno má veľmi príjemný temperament a je takmer vždy poslušný. Fyzicky, Americký bully, má veľmi úchvatnú atletickú postavu, je svalnatý a silný.
