Being with horses and training alongside them has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Their well-being will always be at the heart of everything I do. The programs and methods I teach are based on gentleness, respect and care, ensuring a safe and positive experience for both horses and riders.

In light of a recent video circulating online featuring a horse trainer, that I do not want to mention her name, I would like to clarify for anyone who remembers my past involvement: a few years ago I explored training within a particular program, but I soon realized that my values and approach to working with horses were different. I have resigned and have not participated in that program or its methods for years and wish to have nothing to do with the program, its methods or the trainer who implements them.

My commitment has been and will remain to ethical, humane training and prioritizing the well-being of horses and humans. Fear, force, or intimidation have no place in my programs and my life and are contrary to my philosophy and practice.

Now this one was a fun challenge!
She has been one of those extremely influential horses in my life, not because of how many rosettes she would win, but because of the personal growth she pushed me to do and how much that has in return changed my life.

Gabi came to me in January 2024 and the first photo here is her now in January 2025. The difference isnโ€™t just physical either, its also in her softness and the way she now expresses herself in everyday.
With the help of my mentor Claudia Wolters, who is an expert in classical education of horses (Academic Art of Riding) and a fantastic teacher, I have been able to rehabilitate Gabi and help her find a new way of moving and carrying her body and the rider in a new healthy way, which aims at not using the horses body but giving the body the strength and the tools to be able to give it longevity and more health.

Welcome back to everyone!
I have taken over a year off from socials during which I have undergone a major life transformation. And itโ€™s not over yet, but I finally received a nudge to open myself up and start sharingโ€ฆ

I've just now officially published my first article on my website, which feels incredibly thrilling, but also scary ๐Ÿ˜… (link to article is below)

This truly feels like the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
My soul has been aching for this for so long. To share my stories with the world rather than keeping them only to myself, feels liberating.

Things may not look the same as they used to on my platforms.
Yes, there will be horses of course, that will never change. But there will also be an invitation to explore further depths of our relationship with horses, our life, ourselves, and the Divine.

I also understand that this may not be everyoneโ€™s cup of tea, and thatโ€™s fine, but I hope that for some, this may resonate and perhaps even inspire, if you find yourself with similar feelings.

Be sure to follow me on insta, as I will be sharing more content on that platform.

Love, Klara

This is what I have asked myself over and over again. Where to even begin? How to catch up when so much time has passed, but I simply cannot ignore the fact that I had been gone from socials for over a year, and to just come back smiling and resume as if nothing had ever happened, would be a lie.

โ€œWhen the horse WANTS to do something, he starts going above and beyond. He starts to offer more effort and energy, and loves participating in trainingโ€

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ YESSSS I love this and ๐Ÿ’ฏ agree because itโ€™s true and I have experienced it in my own horses ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคฉ

โ€œI want my horse to be in this for me, not the foodโ€โฃ
โฃ
๐Ÿ‘†This is a really common concern for people when they contemplate trying out positive reinforcement๐Ÿฅ•โฃ
โฃ
Letโ€™s take a closer look at this from a scientific lens ๐Ÿงโฃ
โฃ
If you havenโ€™t been using any food in your training, and youโ€™re interacting with your horse in a standard way (haltering, leading, grooming, riding, groundwork, etc)โ€ฆโฃ
โฃ
Whatโ€™s the motivation for your horse doing what you ask?โฃ
โฃ
Is it truly โ€œfor youโ€โ€ฆ or is he *responding to the release of pressure?*โฃ
โฃ
Of course, horses can absolutely enjoy aspects of their time with people. But even so, the primary motivation for performing numerous tasks that expend lots of energy? โžก๏ธ Seeking a release of pressure. Weโ€™re not saying this is wrong or badโ€ฆ weโ€™re saying, objectively, thatโ€™s the motivation.โฃ
โฃ
Now, when positive reinforcement in the form of food rewards is the primary motivation, things start to change drastically in ways you may not expect! ๐Ÿ’ซโฃ
โฃ
Using food rewards, your horse is gaining something that HE wants on an instinctual level. Food is a primary motivator based on physiological needs ๐Ÿดโฃ
โฃ
When the horse gets something so desirable out of his time with you, something magical begins to happen โœจ well, it feels magical anyway! But in reality it makes total logical sense:โฃ
โฃ
He begins to offer you even MORE than youโ€™re asking for.โฃ
โฃ
When you use pressure and release, the horse essentially must do what you want in order to experience relief. โฃ
โฃ
Whereas with positive reinforcement, he has a *choice* and the opportunity to get something he wants.โฃ
โฃ
When the horse WANTS to do something, he starts going above and beyond. He starts to offer more effort and energy, and loves participating in training ๐ŸŒฑโฃ
โฃ
Kind of like how you may do the bare minimum at a job you need, just to pay the billsโ€ฆโฃ
โฃ
But youโ€™d put in longer hours or more creativity into a passion project that fulfills you deeply ๐ŸŒธโฃ
โฃ
As much as weโ€™d like it to be true, horses donโ€™t do everything just for us. They have their own wants, needs and desires. When you give back by motivating him with something he wants, youโ€™ll find that both of you are more fulfilled โ™ฅ๏ธโฃ

Horses, like humans, need a balance of physical, emotional, and mental well-being to truly thrive ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿง โค๏ธ

The mental health of horses, like that of humans, is a critical aspect of their overall well-being ๐Ÿงก Their emotional states significantly influence their behavior, health, and even their performance. Horses are highly social and sensitive creatures, and they can experience a range of emotions, including fear, anxiety, stress, frustration, affection and even depression.

Identifying mental health issues in our horses is key ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Signs to watch for include changes in behavior, decreased performance, less interest in surroundings, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, and the development of stereotypic behaviors.

But what can we do to promote good mental health in our horses? It's all about creating a nurturing environment ๐ŸŒฟ and ensuring that the following needs are met:
- freedom (from pain and to move)
- friends
- forage

AND good training practices that help calm their nervous systems and promote relaxation

Stay tuned for more on this topic!

The HARD TRUTH about the HORSE training WORLD

What I have experienced more times that I can count is that certain trainers/coaches will make you feel small and let you believe that everything you need is within them and not you.

Consciously or unconsciously, with their toxic energy, they isolate you from other people and methods, they make you stay around them a little longer, pay them a little more, buy one more course from them until you canโ€™t give any more yet you still feel like you are at the beginning and nowhere near where they promised you to be - but โ€œthe problem is in you and not themโ€ ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ

Donโ€™t get me wrong Iโ€™m a horse trainer myself and yes, we all have a certain amount of expertise and knowledge that can be helpful to you in achieving a certain goal, but in helping you achieve that goal our job is not to make you need us even more, but to give you the tools and empower you to become your own independent and confident horse owners/ trainers who trust in your own feeling and guidance. And if we are unable to help you or your horse, to kindly point you in the right direction where you can be successful.

My biggest win is when I see my clients take the knowledge they learned and apply it in so many beautiful ways AND feel like they can continue their horse journey without me but can always reach out to me because they know I GENUINELY CARE!

Moral of the story? Whatever you want to set out yourself to achieve, you have the power within you to do it. Whoever or whatever you think you need so much, trust me you donโ€™t need it as much as you think that you do.

โœจEVERYTHING YOU NEED IS WITHIN YOUโœจ

Drop a ๐Ÿ’ฏ if you have seen this happen before!
Or
Tag a friend who needs to hear this!

โ—I donโ€™t believe in one thing being the solution for all your problems.

I don't believe that it's just that one training tip, or one piece of equipment that you are missing, which will solve it all.

Because on the grand scale it is never like that. Our horses didn't just wake up one day with a million issues, it was one problem that led to another, that caused something else, that triggered the body into another issue.
So expecting then for one training tip to solve it all is frankly insane ๐Ÿคฏ

Permanent change always comes as multiple things coming together to improve the overall situation

You can imagine that when a horse is growing, it is important that they receive all the building materials for optimal growth. How can you keep the young horseโ€™s nutritional system in balance in order to optimize their development? Weโ€™ll also dive deeper into the effects of high physical demands at a young age, such as in racehorses. In that case, building blocks are sometimes used for other purposes than growth, what are the effects of this?

If we can be grateful for every little tiny achievement that are horses give us, then we can get to our goal so much quicker, and with so much more joy for the journey we are on.

It's always easier to look back and see all the great things that happened and feel a certain gratitude towards it. But were you grateful for those moments and tiny little steps and achievements while they were happening?

Too many times, we are busy looking ahead, and thinking "When I am going to get THERE?" and not seeing the progress you are achieving right NOW. And your horse can feel that!

So instead reward them (and yourself) immensely for tinniest little improvement, for the slightest try and effort.

Take what you get, and not what you want and do so with grace.

Trust me, with this your horse will make incredible improvements in a very short time.

๐Ÿ”Š Is it possible to teach your horse to relax rather than freak out and spook? HELL YEAH!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

I'm not saying that I teach a horse to not be afraid - that isn't possible and even if you could teach it, it would be actually very dangerous!

But we CAN teach them to regulate their nervous system better and with that their overall level of stress. Now if we can lower their overall level of stress then we will start seeing a horse who is more relaxed and less triggered by anything in the environment.

If you need help with calming down your horse - Book a lesson or send me a DM
We can get your horses nervous system under control โš ๏ธ
