After visiting several cat cafes in Japan, Sam and Sue wanted to bring the same experience to Singapore. They are firm proponents of cat therapy and the indescribable joy and relaxation that it comes with. While cat cafes in Japan, Korea and Bangkok usually feature only pedigreed cats, Sam and Sue made a decision to only adopt cats for their cafe. This is their message - Adopt, don't buy! All cats

deserved to be loved, what more the homeless and abandoned ones? They want to show that non-pedigreed cats can be beautiful and affectionate companions. With more than 16 years of cat care experience behind them, Sam and Sue want to share the joy and knowledge of cat ownership which seem to be lacking in Singapore. Myths like 'cats are dirty, noisy and aloof' can't be further from the truth. The only way to dispel such myths is to create an opportunity for people to spend time with cats and experience for themselves what lovely, responsive and intelligent companions cats can be. With Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa (Japanese for ‘Cat Garden’), Sam and Sue take their first step towards changing mindsets.

日本、韓国、バンコクのいろいろな猫カフェをにいってみて、サムとスーはシンガポールでも同じことをやってみたいと思いました。彼らは言葉では言い表すことができない癒し、リラックスを受ける事ができる猫テラピーをとても実感していた。実際日本の猫カフェでは、お客さんが心地よいイスに座り、目を閉じ、猫がつくり出す穏やかな雰囲気に浸っていました。これこそ猫の癒しの力だと感じました。

猫たちとの16年以上共にした経験を元に、サムとスーは猫を飼うことへの知識、情報が少ないシンガポールで猫を飼う喜びや知識をシェアしたいと考えました。よく猫たちを　猫は汚い、うるさい、心を打ち解けない　など言われますが、それは事実とはほど遠いのです！猫カフェを作り、猫たちと過ごす機会を提供することにより、猫の愛らしさ、反応の速さ、かしこさを体験してもらい、これらの考えを払拭していくことができると思っています。
　
猫カフェ　ねこの庭　で猫たちへの考え方を変える最初のステップにしたいと思います。

Can’t believe it’s been 365 days since Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa closed its doors after 8.5 years in operation!

We are happy to report that all our retirees are thriving in their homes, enjoying their golden years ✨Some quick updates on everyone -

Luna, Monkey, Kai Kai and Robbie are with our founders & . Integrating the 4 of them with their 3 resident cats was tough in the beginning. But it’s much better now!

Miley had a super cute haircut last year and her fur seemed to have grown back longer than before.

Emma & Skittles have integrated well with their furbling, Pico the dwarf bunny. They now share their pawrents’ bed

Jia Jia is spoilt with all latest toys and “iPhone”

Demi’s current mission is to takeover ‘s bed.

And Muffet has transformed beyond recognition! She has become more affectionate and playful, more vocal and adventurous. Her nightly routine is to sit with her grandpawrent for pets while watching TV together 🥹

Some of our retired aunties dressed up for the festivities, aren’t they just adorable? 😍

2022 was an eventful year for us. We will never forget the generous support received when we closed Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa on 1st May as well as the friendships old and new.

Also grateful that all the retirees found good homes and are enjoying their idyllic lives now. Looking forward to spending the Year of the Rabbit with them at home! Good things and new adventures await 🥳

We wish you and your family only the very best for a smooth year ahead. May health and happiness be bountiful in your journey. HUAT AH 🧧🎊

Luna stood beside this illustration in the morning as though reminding me that it’s our 9th anniversary! That’s right, Neko no Niwa opened on Christmas Day 2013. Luna must have a built-in calendar reminder 😆

The illustration in the picture was gifted by our teammate last year. A precious reminder also of how we lost Baloo over Christmas 2022. Can you still identify all 11 cafe cats?

So very glad to be spending a quiet Christmas with these retirees at home. Wishing you a Meowy Christmas, from our family to yours!

7 months!

What a journey! Not only have we learnt alot about integration, we are also learning more about each cat's personality with time. Some key milestones:

Luna & Kai Kai were most adventurous and love hanging outside since we started supervised integration in late Aug. Robbie only started exploring beyond the sanctuary room in Oct, when the other 3 were already familiar with the rest of the house. He quickly took to the sofa and our bed but even so, he still prefers to sleep in his room.

Monkey only felt safe enough for naps outside, after about a month of exploring. Most recently he has taken to cuddling with Kai Kai, like they used to at the cafe. Now that they have space outside, Monkey and Robbie would take turns chasing each other in the mornings. And Monkey would regularly do his zoomies. It's really nice to see them back in their element after months of adjusting to the the new environment. Similarly, Luna is back to her usual sticky self like at the cafe, asking for multiple lap sessions throughout the day. We are just so glad to be able to go about our day as usual, and not have to split our waking hours between the cat room and the rest of the house!

Meanwhile, observing their reactions to new things have been most entertaining - first time seeing a washing machine, first time on a human bed (wow the most awesome thing!), first time seeing a very busy road, first time smelling durian and drinking water from a cup!

We are still unable to leave the 4 cats unsupervised with the 3 resident cats as there is still friction - some hissing and some chasing. Nothing too hostile, but without supervision, it might escalate quickly into something very unpleasant. So better be safe - soured relationships between cats can be hard to mend!

After alot of time and patience, this is definitely positive progress and we look forward to spending our first Christmas at home with these retired sweethearts. Wishing everypawdy Happy Holidays and a wonderful season of love and joy!
