Day 21 – From Jellybeans to Cuddle Companions 🐾

The pups are now completely at ease being on my hand and with gentle petting.

This really shows how early hand-taming and consistent, calm interaction can make a difference. By introducing them to human presence from a young age, they’ve become familiar with touch, resulting in lower stress responses and minimal biting or defensive behaviour.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch them grow from tiny jellybeans into confident, curious little ones who make such lovely companions.

With that, today marks the final day of this 21-day journey. The pups are now fully weaned and ready for their new homes. I’ll be sharing a separate post soon with the requirements and details for those who may be interested.

Day 20 – Sharing the Bowl 🐾

Feeding time got a little crowded today, with both pups squeezing into the same bowl.

Switching to a shallower dish really helps—it allows easier access from all sides. While it doesn’t completely stop the occasional jostling (they are still little food hoarders after all 😅), it does make it easier for both of them to eat at the same time and reduces the chance of one pup blocking or hogging the entire bowl.

Day 19 – Exploring New Tastes 🌽🐾

Today’s focus is on expanding the pups’ diet. I’ve started introducing fresh vegetables, and in this case, a little bit of corn.

At this stage, they’re mainly on solid food, so it’s a good time to slowly add variety beyond their usual diet. Fresh foods can provide additional nutrients and enrichment, but they should always be introduced in small amounts to avoid digestive issues.

Day 18 – Tug of War🐾

Caught a hilarious moment today—the pups snatching a piece of treat and turning it into a full-on tug-of-war.

What started as one of them grabbing the treat quickly turned into a mini competition, with both of them refusing to let go 😅

While it looks a bit chaotic, this kind of interaction is actually part of normal development. It helps them build coordination, confidence, and early social behaviours. And true to hamster nature—they’re not exactly known for sharing, but rather for hoarding their food.

Day 17 – Clean-Up Day 🧼🐾

Finally managed to do a proper cage cleaning today… and honestly, it was much needed 😅
Now that the pups are older and safe to handle, it’s a lot easier to temporarily move them out without stressing mama Crescent too much. Earlier on, cleaning had to be minimal to avoid disturbing the nest but hygiene is equally important once safe to do so.
The enclosure is now fresh again, giving them a cleaner and more comfortable space to continue growing.

Day 16 – Building Trust Early 🐾

Starting to spend a little more time gently handling the pups.
At this stage, early hand-taming plays an important role. Having short and calm interactions help them get used to human scent and touch. This makes a big difference in how they adapt as they grow, helping them become more comfortable, less fearful, and easier to handle later on.
