🐶 Casper Lohitha & Co. 🐶

About 3 months ago, Casper & Lohitha’s owners brought Lohitha in for a pregnancy check. After some discussion, we deduced that she was more than 43 days along in the pregnancy which meant that the skeletal structures of the puppies have been formed and would be visible on an x-ray.

We then performed some abdominal x-rays to figure out how many puppies she was expecting! Can you spot all 5 puppies on the X-ray on the second panel? 👀 Swipe to the next panel for answers!

We also performed an abdominal ultrasound to check the heart rates of the puppies! Check our Instagram page and see if you can find puppy’s heart beat!

We then went through some handy information sheets on what to expect during Lohitha’s pregnancy, birthing and nursing. A few weeks later, we received a call from Lohitha’s owners that she had given birth to 5 puppies smoothly with mum and babies all doing well. We saw Lohitha for a health check after her first week as a new mama and found that she was coping well as well as being a wonderful mama!

We kept in contact to ensure that all of them were doing well and scheduled the puppies in for their first vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age.

Today, we saw their entire family for the puppies’ first vaccination and deworming. All puppies were checked from nose to tail, vaccinated and dewormed. They’ll be in for 2 more core vaccinations after today’s! All of them were so brave and absolutely adorable ♥️

😼 Double the mischief, double the cuteness 😻

Jie Jie and Mei Mei came for their first kitten vaccination last week 🐱🐱 They were both a little shy but were still extremely brave during their physical examination and vaccination!

Their owners also opted to do an FeLV/FIV blood test for them as they have another adult cat at home. FeLV and FIV are diseases that affect the immune system and can be transmitted by contact between cats or from mother to baby. It is important to know the FeLV and FIV status of your cats as this helps to protect the health of your cat and other cats in your household. If you have a cat that is FeLV positive, other cats in close contact can be vaccinated.

🐹 Handsome’s cheeky situation 🐹

Cheeky Handsome came in to our clinic as his owner found his cheeks growing larger over the course of a few weeks. Upon further examination, we found that his cheek pouches were both impacted with a huge amount of food. He also had a wound on his left cheek, likely due to overstuffing himself with yummy snacks.

We then proceeded to evacuate the food material from both cheeks gently and slowly. We discovered a ginormous amount of seeds that had started rotting in his cheek pouches! 👀

We then discussed with his owner that seeds should only be fed as a snack and he should be placed on a well-balanced diet that will be more beneficial for his health. He was also given some oral antibiotics to go home with to treat the infection on his left cheek ❤️‍🩹

❓Did you know❓

Hamsters should be fed in small amounts and their food should be changed out daily. There are nutritionally balanced pellets that should be fed as part of their main diet.

Seeds should only ever be given in small amounts due to their high amounts of fat. Feeding too much of a yummy snack can result in obesity and nutritional deficiencies!

Remember to check if the food you’re feeding your little one is nutritionally appropriate for them 💙

🍦 Cone-fidence is key 🍦

Brave Watsu came to the clinic last week for his castration. He was an absolute angel throughout his short stay during the day with us! Watsu was unfazed even though he found himself in a cone when he fully awoke from his slumber. Look at him posing cone-fidently in his cone! 😎 His cone will come off in 2 weeks once his surgical site has healed!

Cones (Elizabethan collars) play an important role in preventing surgical site infections post surgery and thus, it is absolutely vital to keep them on until your furkid’s wounds heal even though it may seem tempting to remove it with their guilt-tripping eyes! 🥺

🧸 Teddy bear alert 🧸

Adorable FuBao came to TAC for his final puppy booster today! A while ago, he had diarrhea and was unable to get his second booster. He’s come a long way with us, having recovered from his bout of infectious diarrhea to getting his second booster and now, his final booster 💉

He was a courageous boy who didn’t cry during his vaccination! After a round of cuddles and praise from our staff, we reluctantly returned him to mummy 💙

🔬 Kara’s itchy ears 👂

Sweet Kara visited us for her vaccination last week 💉During her visit, her attentive owner discussed that she observed Kara scratching her ears more than usual and she was producing more yellow ear wax too. We decided to get a sample using a cotton tip from each ear to have a look 👀 under the microscope.

Under the microscope 🔬 we found an increased amount of yeast (Malassezia) in both of her ears! After sampling, we gave her ears a good clean with our Dermoscent Otocleanser. Peek at how good she was for her ear clean! Kara was also given medicinal ear drops that contained an antifungal to treat the yeast and some steroids to calm the itch and inflammation in her ears. We also discussed cleaning Kara’s ears weekly from here on. We’ll see her in 2 weeks for her review!

Some signs of an ear infection include:
- Excessive scratching of ears
- Dirty ears despite frequent cleaning
- Redness around the ears
- Discharge from ear canals
- Odour from ear canals
- Head shaking

🐢 Caring for Turtles in Apartments

Turtles can thrive in apartments with the right setup! Start with a spacious tank at least 20 gallons for smaller species and ensure it has proper filtration to keep the water clean.
