🦷 Luna’s toothache 🦷

Brave Luna came to our clinic for a dental procedure as she had a broken premolar on her left upper arcade. Her attentive owners found that she had a cracked tooth and brought her in for a check prior!

‼️ Do take note that there are pictures of surgery in the following slides‼️

Swipe to see pictures 3&4 of her broken premolar!

Luna had a vertical break in a tooth which is termed a “slab fracture”. As the pulp of the tooth was exposed, extraction was recommended. As this tooth was comprised of 3 roots, we had to section the tooth into 3 parts and extract each root individually.

Swipe to see (5&6) how we started by making a gum flap by using a scalpel to cut the gum and how we then sectioned the tooth with a bur (a small rotary cutting instrument)!

After all the roots were removed, the edges of the bone were then smoothened out with the bur (7). Then, the gum flap is stitched with absorbable sutures to close the area up (8&9).

The remaining teeth were scaled and polished (10&11) to ensure that Luna’s mouth would be clean to prevent extraction site infection! ✨

As a precaution, hard objects should not be given to your furkids to chew on as they can result in tooth fractures. 😖 It is also important for us to check our furkid’s teeth often so we can pick up abnormalities such as tooth fractures or gum inflammation early.

If you would like to check on your furkid’s dental health and discuss dental care with us, call us to book your appointment today!

🎣 Dr Kenneth goes fishing 🎣

Olive the cat 🐱 came to us as her caretaker noticed that she had a fishing line hanging out of her bum 🐟 She’s a stray living around a fishing pond and likely tried scoring herself a yummy snack but ingested her snack along with a fishing line 🎣

After a physical examination and some X-rays 🩻 , we discovered that a fishhook was lodged in her descending colon (large intestine) and required open abdominal surgery to be removed. I guess it’s safe to say — she was hooked 🪝

Swipe to see the X-ray! Can you spot the fish hook? 👀

‼️Do take note that there are pictures of surgery in the following slides‼️

Swipe to see Dr Kenneth “fishing” for the fishhook🪝!

Dr Kenneth found that the fishhook had pierced through the colon and trapped some fat near the bladder and pierced back into the colon again 😱He carefully incised into the colon in 2 areas to remove both ends of the fishhook and sutured the incisions close with absorbable suture material. He then ensured that there was no active bleeding or other abnormalities before closing the abdominal cavity.

Peek at Olive being back to her normal self after surgery and recovery in the last few slides! 🥰🥰

⚡️ Furkid Safety Tip ⚡️

Be mindful of what you leave lying around! Everyday items like socks 🧦 , string 🧶, toys 🧸 , or food wrappers 🍬 can be tempting for pets—but if swallowed, they can cause dangerous foreign body blockages.

Keep areas your furkid can access clear to safeguard your furkid’s health and safety 🐾

If you suspect that your furkid has swallowed a foreign object, book an appointment with us today to get them checked!

☕️ Our kind of Pupcup ☕️

Beanie came to us last week for his gotcha-day health check! He was such a trooper and was melting all our hearts in the clinic 💖🫠 He posed so well right beside our nurse’s Stanley cup! The perfect Pupcup if you ask us 🐶

We had a brief discussion on the topic of insurance for dogs as Beanie’s owners were keen to get him covered. We recommend pet owners to obtain pet insurance for your beloved furkid as young as possible to ensure that they are well covered for illnesses and accidents.

It is important to note that there are many options available and each policy covers different aspects. Thus, it is vital to have an idea of what you would like your furkid to be covered for and a good understanding of each policy.

A health check and filling of a form by your veterinarian is typically required for application of an insurance policy! If you would like to apply for an insurance policy for your furkid, come visit us today for your furkid’s health check!

Ps: Please bring a copy of your chosen insurance company’s health check form for your veterinarian to fill up!

🕵🏻 The mystery of the missing ball🕵🏻

Meet DouDou, our brave little pup who came in for his castration! His attentive owner noted that one of his testicles had gone missing as he grew up 🧐 Upon physical examination, we found that one of his testicles was in the inguinal canal and missing from the scrotal sac 🔍 This condition is termed — Cryptorchidism!

Typically, if patients are not a cryptorchid, a single incision infront of the scrotal sacs is sufficient to remove both testicles. During Doudou’s surgery, Dr Audrey made 2 small separate incisions to remove both testicles as the testicle in the inguinal canal could not be moved down to the regular incision site.

Look at DouDou at his post surgery check looking all happy and bouncy with Dr Audrey! 💖✨

❓Did you know❓

If your furkid is a cryptorchid, castration surgery is highly advised as the testicle that does not descend can have a higher risk of developing cancer and testicular torsion! Some furkids with this condition can also show increased aggression. It is not advisable for furkids with this condition to be bred as this condition can be inherited by offspring.

Thinking of booking a sterilisation surgery? Call us to book your appointment today!

🍼 Truffle & her Truffles 🍼

A few months ago, Truffle’s owner brought her in as she noticed that her belly was getting bloated 🤰 Her owner was wondering if she could be pregnant as she came into heat just over a month ago! After a thorough physical examination and a quick abdominal ultrasound, we deduced that she was indeed pregnant 😅

We performed some abdominal x-rays to figure out how many puppies she was expecting! Can you spot all 6 puppies on the X-ray on the third panel? 👀 Swipe to the next panel for answers!

We then went through some important information sheets on when and what to expect during Truffle’s pregnancy, birthing and nursing. A few weeks later, Truffle and family came down for a health check on the day she gave birth! She gave birth to 6 healthy pups 💙 We gave mummy and all her puppies a thorough check to ensure that they were all healthy and well.

We kept in contact over the next few weeks to ensure that all of them were doing well and scheduled the puppies in for their puppy vaccinations. Swipe to see the puppies during their vaccination! As of today, they’ve all completed their puppy vaccinations and are ready to go out to meet the outside world! 🎓

❓Did you know❓

Skeletal structures are only visible on X-rays 43 days into pregnancy even though bone formation starts from 28 days of pregnancy! Thus, x-rays to count the number of babies are normally done from day 43 onwards 🦴

At TAC, we value building strong connections with our clients and patients. If you have a furkid expecting some puppies or kittens and require guidance on caring for mum & babies, call us to book an appointment today!

🦸🏻‍♂️ Dr Kenneth Saves The Day 🦸🏻‍♂️

❔Have you ever heard of the term Pyometra❔

Pyometra is an infection of the uterus that can affect unspayed dogs and sometimes, cats too! This condition can quickly become life threatening if left untreated.

This condition typically affects dogs above 6 years of age and in cats, above 4 years of age. However, it can still affect unspayed dogs and cats of any age.

Swipe left to learn about the signs to look out for!

❓How do we diagnose it❓

Along with medical history and a physical examination, we recommend either X-rays and/or ultrasound with the addition of bloodwork to confirm the presence of Pyometra. Can you spot the uterine horns on the X-rays? 👀 Swipe for the answers!

The most recommended treatment for this condition is surgery to remove the ovaries, uterine horns and uterine body.

‼️Swipe left to see how Dr Kenneth performed his pyometra surgery but do take note that there are actual pictures of surgery in the following slides‼️

Dr Kenneth first opened the abdomen with a midline incision and identified all reproductive structures. He then clamped and ligated the ovarian vessels, followed by the uterine vessels and body. Cautery was also used to ensure all vessels were well sealed with heat to reduce the risk of bleeding. He then did a final check for any further abnormalities before closing up! ✨

To prevent this condition, we recommend spaying your dogs and cats 🐈 🐕 If you would like to have a chat about when to spay your furkid, call us to book your appointment today!
