🔍🐰 Anatomical Challenges of Retrieving a Foreign Body in a Rabbit’s Sphenoidal Sinus 🐰🔍
Meet Mochi 🐰, a 4-year-old Holland Lop with persistent respiratory issues. The cause remained unclear—until advanced imaging revealed a surprise.
Cone Beam CT (CBCT) identified a piece of hay lodged deep within the sphenoidal sinus, a small, hard-to-reach cavity behind the nasal passages that’s nearly impossible to assess with conventional imaging.
Why CBCT made the difference:
✔️ High-resolution 3D visualisation
✔️ Precise localisation of the foreign body
✔️ Safe surgical planning around critical structures like the optic nerve
Surgery in this region is like navigating a tight, delicate maze, surrounded by vital anatomy. Precision is essential to minimise risk.
With foreign bodies, early intervention is key to preventing infection and complications—making advanced imaging truly transformative in cases like this.
👏 Kudos to the team, and to brave little Mochi—who bounced back amazingly, started binge eating shortly after surgery, and was discharged earlier than expected!
