NATIONAL RECORD 🇸🇬

There are few certainties in life: death, taxes… and Ang Chen Xiang breaking his own National Record.

The Flying Doctor has done it again - clocking 13.77s (+1.5m/s) in the 110m Hurdles Final at the Taiwan Athletics Open on 7 June 2025. This not only earned him a 4th-place finish against a strong field, but also marked a new National Record - his 15th in the event.

It shaves 0.03s off his previous best of 13.80s (+0.0m/s), set just two months ago at the Singapore Open, and brings him under the 13.8 barrier for the very first time.

Speaking after his race, Chen Xiang shared:

“13.77 marks my 15th National Record since 2015. Every one feels special because each represents a different phase of my life. To me, it is validation of a decade of commitment to getting better, even when life gets busy and responsibilities grow.”

“Missing out on the finals of the Asian Championships last week was tough, but I knew the speed was there. Today, I was able to put it all together - and it is an incredible feeling.”

Congratulations Chen Xiang - your consistency, resilience, and relentless pursuit of excellence continue to inspire 🇸🇬👏

NATIONAL RECORD 🇸🇬

Singapore’s Women’s 4x100m team shattered the National Record with a time of 44.66s at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea, placing 5th in Asia.

The team was led off by Shannon Tan (PB 12.27s), a Secondary 4 student from Cedar Girls’ making her Team Singapore debut. The baton was then carried through the next two legs by Elizabeth-Ann Tan (11.72s) and Shanti Pereira (11.20s) - Singapore’s two fastest female sprinters ever. Laavinia Jaiganth (12.15s), National U20 Record Holder in the 400m, anchored the team with a composed final leg. Kerstin Ong and Sarah Poh also formed part of the relay team that travelled to Gumi.

The previous national mark of 44.96s, set at the 2017 SEA Games by Wendy Enn, Dipna Lim Prasad, Shanti, and Nur Izlyn Zaini, had stood for nearly eight years. That time was only equalled a month ago at the 2025 Singapore Open, where Kerstin ran lead-off instead of Shannon.

Spearheaded by Shanti, who ran a storming second bend, this new-look team blends experience and star quality with youth and potential - a promising sign for the future.

This 44.66s clocking would have medalled in 30 of the 31 SEA Games editions where the women’s 4x100m was contested.

The relay coaches who managed the team were Hamkah Afik, Khairyll Amri, Melvin Tan and Remy Gan. The individual coaches of the National Record quartet are Margaret Oh (Shannon), Hamkah and Khairyll (Elizabeth-Ann), Luis Cunha (Shanti) and Fabian William (Laavinia).
