It’s a long video, and this is Oscar’s first grooming experience. He has never been professionally groomed before, whether at home or outside. You can clearly see how anxious he is with the sound of the water.

For cats like Oscar, using a Happy Hoodie can really help to reduce the noise and provide a sense of comfort. The most important part, however, is the energy and calmness of the person bathing the cat. A gentle approach, calm movements, and a soothing voice can make a huge difference in helping the cat feel safer and more relaxed during the grooming process.

Fear Free grooming is not about forcing the cat to “just tolerate” the session — it’s about building trust, reducing stress, and helping them slowly gain confidence with the process over time. 🐾

Whenever he appears calmer, I use a clicker along with treats to reward and reinforce his good behaviour.

Jack Blue is sensitive to the sound of the water hose, so I initially switched to using a pail. With this method, he appeared noticeably calmer.

However, as a Siberian cat, his coat is naturally thick and somewhat water-resistant. To ensure proper grooming and thorough rinsing, it is important for him to gradually become comfortable with both the water pressure and the sound of the hose.

The good news is that he is very treat-motivated, so I use treats as positive reinforcement during the showering process to help him build a more positive association with the experience.

90% of my grooming is without bathub, due to space. However i have a iron knee 😂, my client cat’s comfort and safety is my top priority. Than seconds is my knee.

Mostly you dont need to restrain the cat when showering, its how calm are you to handle the cats.

Tips for belly combing. This is the approach I use when combing the belly for bigger cats or cats that are sensitive about having their belly combed. You may want to try this technique.

Kaoru becomes extra sweet after a shower and blow-dry, and positive reinforcement helps keep the grooming experience calm and comfortable.

For European Maine C***s, they usually have very dense and thick coats, and the belly area tends to develop tangles easily if it is not brushed properly with the correct tools and technique.

Creating a gentle and safe grooming environment helps cats slowly build trust with the grooming process. 🐾
