Today, 29th Aug, is Ode's Barkday. I offered him vegetarian food last night, and he came back and ate some!

I also bought him his favorite treats. He loves the Whimzee Croc dental chew, yogurt, coconut water and milk(though I didn't give him this brand when he was around, but milk is milk).

Ode! Mama will always think of you, even though you are no longer a dog. Please continue to help all sentient beings.

Mama loves you, wherever and whatever you are! In my heart, you never died. You are indeed my teacher, who taught me to put what I learned about dogs and animals into practice by giving back to the dog community.

Keepsakes - Photo urn, pendant, paw prints, ashes, and fur.

3 years later, today, I decided to open up the urn and was actually expecting to see the ashes broken down, but to my surprise, all are intact, including the joints and digits.

According to the staff at the crematorium, dogs or animals that had very minimum medication would have intact ashes after they died and subsequently cremated because of the dense bone. His ashes are mostly white and solid.

Ode really had very little medication and was in good general health till old age.

Remembering Ode – 3rd Anniversary

Remembering Ode on this day—as with every day—reminds me that no matter how many years pass, he still holds a special place in my heart.

These past three years have never been easy. Grief comes in waves. There were moments I laughed at his antics, and others when I cried quietly, missing him deeply. It all felt so fleeting—one moment he was with me, and the next, he was gone. In just a few hours, he turned to ashes, and with him, parts of my world shifted—especially my mental and emotional well-being.

But today, I no longer see him as just a dog. I remember him as a young, handsome soul walking the path of the Buddha. I find joy in sharing his quirks and stories with friends and fellow dog lovers—not sorrow.

On this third anniversary, I made offerings of vegetables and eggs—no meat. It’s my way of honoring his gentle spirit.

We are all sentient beings—humans and animals alike—bound by the capacity to feel and love.

Each item on his grooming table holds deep sentimental value:

The photo shows how he wanted to be remembered.

The Toothless plush from Korea was my gift to him.

The Snoopy plush was a gift from his jiejie.

His AVA license tag and bone-shaped dog tag, worn proudly as a young pup.

A little corgi figurine from his papa.

A shrink-art keychain made by a dear friend.

And today, Ode, I offer you a new gift: an LED candle that will shine 24 hours a day. May this light guide you with wisdom, and may that wisdom touch and uplift all sentient beings.

Ode decided his last day on earth to be the eve of Vesak day and then finally said goodbye on Vesak day.

He chose when to begin his next journey and followed the Buddha on Vesak day.

Since then, I have been bringing his photo to the Animal Blessings at the Vesak events every year for 3 years.

Ode! May you be awakened and be enlightened like the Buddha. Mama is proud of your good deeds for helping and guiding the animals.

May you also lead all sentient beings to enlightenment!
