Is your Dog Right-Pawed or Left-Pawed?
Animals, like dogs and cats, can be right-pawed, left-pawed, or ambidextrous.
• Right-paw preference: Studies suggest a slight majority of dogs (around 58%) favor their right paw, but it's not as strong a preference as humans with right-handedness.
• Left-paw preference: Some dogs (around 42%) show a left paw preference.
• Ambidextrous: A small percentage of dogs use both paws interchangeably.
This simple science experiment can determine if your dogs is right-pawed or left pawed.
Watch a dog moving from standing still to walking forwards. Do they start walking with their left leg, or their right? Watch several times, noting down the starting leg each time, and see if there’s a pattern. Many dogs will often lead with the same leg
