The sled dog season is coming to an end.

Races like the Iditarod, Finnmarksløpet and Yukon Quest are finished. Winners are crowned. From the outside, it looks like the work is done.

But for the dogs, this is where something important begins.

Recovery.

Not as a rest day.
But as a physiological process.

What many don’t realize is that some of the most important stress reactions don’t show immediately. They show one or two days later.

And this is exactly where most mistakes happen.

In my latest blog, I break down what actually happens inside your dog in the first 72 hours after a race and why this phase matters more than most people think.

Especially if you run a small team.

Because two dogs don’t mean less load.
They often mean more.

If you want to understand what to look for and how to support real recovery, you’ll find the full article here:

What is something you’ve noticed in your dog one or two days after a hard run?

Before dog sledding starts, there is always this moment.

Harnesses.
Lines.
Two Huskies that already know exactly what is about to happen.

Pepper and Iluq don’t believe in patience when a run is waiting.

They scream.
They jump.
They spin in circles.

And somehow, in the middle of all that excitement, you still have to get the harnesses on properly.

It’s not the glamorous part of dog sledding.

But it is part of the ritual.

And once the lines are tight and the sled starts moving, all that chaos suddenly turns into focus.

That moment will always be worth it.

See you on the trail,

Spring dog sledding looks calm.

The light lingers longer.
Your dogs are conditioned.
The season feels mature.

But spring is not softer.

It is clearer.

Melt freeze cycles change the snowpack daily.
Resistance increases.
Heat management becomes central.
What looks smooth can demand far more than mid winter conditions.

In my new article, I break down:

• how late season snow behaves
• why resistance quietly increases workload
• what makes spring physically demanding
• and how to structure responsible late season runs

If you run your team in spring conditions, this shift matters.

How do YOU decide when a late season run is enough?

When a female Husky is in heat, many owners stop everything.

No training.
No structure.
Just waiting until it is over.

I see this often.

But heat is not illness.
It is a physiological phase.

And how we handle it says a lot about how we lead.

When Pepper is in heat, I do not “push through.”
But I also do not switch off completely.

I adjust.

And I observe her closely.
Every single day.

I decide daily what we do
and how intense it will be.

Intensity changes.
Environment changes.
Exposure changes.
But structure remains.

Because routine creates stability.
And stability creates security.

Training during heat is not about performance.
It is about intelligent adaptation.

Some days mean controlled leash work instead of free running.
Some days mean strength exercises at home instead of outdoor sessions.
Some days mean simply maintaining rhythm and mental focus.

Leadership is not about doing more.
It is about knowing when and how to adjust.

A well conditioned Husky does not lose everything in two or three weeks.
But she can lose structure if we remove it completely.

And that matters long term.

Now I ask YOU.

When your female Husky is in heat, do you pause everything
or do you adjust intelligently and keep structure in place?

I am curious how YOU handle this phase.

When winter arrives, most slow down.

Huskies rise.

The colder the air gets, the more alive they seem.
The deeper the snow, the steadier their focus becomes.

And this is where many owners misunderstand something important.

Cold is not automatically stress for a Husky.

In fact, for a healthy and well conditioned Husky, winter is often not a limitation but an alignment with its biology.

So why do so many people reduce activity the moment temperatures drop?

Because we judge winter through human discomfort.

Not through canine physiology.

And that difference matters.

It affects training decisions.
Energy management.
Recovery.
Long term health.

I wrote a new article about why Huskies truly thrive in freezing conditions and when cold actually becomes a problem.

If you train, run or work your Husky in winter, you should understand this.

Now I ask YOU 🫵 – be honest.

When winter comes, do you adjust training based on temperature
or based on your Husky’s conditioning and biology?

I am curious how YOU see it.

Their passion is my passion.

Huskies love the cold.
They love running in it.
It’s in their genes.

If you don’t enjoy being outdoors in cold, Huskies might not be the right fit.
But if you do, then ENJOY the magic of dog sledding.

Big team or small team, the magic is always the same.

See you on the trail,
Yvonne xx
