Svenska Brevduveförbundet bildades 1917 av Oscar Gyllenhammar i Göteborg och är en sammanslutning av samtliga brevduveföreningar i Sverige. Förbundet består av ca 250 medlemmar från Stockholm i norr till Ystad i söder. Lite kort om brevduvesport
Brevduvesport är en hobby som vem som helst kan syssla med, gammal som ung. Under sommarhalvåret arrangeras tävlingar i klubb, distrikt och även nationel
lt. Den största tävlingen är SM som består av s*x gemensamma National tävlingar,varav tre ifrån söder och tre ifrån norr. Dessutom så koras En Nationalmästare norr samt likaså en Nationalmästare söder. Bäst sammanlagda resultat ifrån de s*x National kappflygningarna ger den Svenska Mästaren. Förutom detta arrangeras ett 20-tal tävlingar på distriktsnivå på kort- och medeldistans. Brevduvesport går ut på att släppa duvorna från en gemensam plats för att så snabbt som möjligt flyga hem till slaget. Duvorna som tävlar förses med en speciell ring som registrerar tidpunkten för duvans hemkomst på slaget. På så sätt kan hastigheten beräknas. En stor del av sporten går ut på att avla fram så bra duvor som möjligt. Detta innebär att det krävs god kontakt med djur i allmänhet men också elementära kunskaper i djuravel. För att bli framgångsrik inom sporten krävs ofta många år av hårt arbete med brevduveavel och goda erfarenheter i tävlande med brevduvor.
