Your Basenji’s nails are talking before your dog does… 👀🐾
Every breeder has that one topic they repeat so often they start sounding like a broken record.
Mine? Nails. 😂
Yes… again about nail trimming.
And yes… it really is that important.
I know Basenjis are dramatic enough already without adding “spa day for paws” to the schedule, but long nails are not just a cosmetic issue. They change posture, movement, balance, and over time can overload joints and muscles.
If you hear little “click-click-click” sounds on the floor before your Basenji enters the room… congratulations - your dog announced the problem before you saw it. 🤦♀️
Basenjis are built to move beautifully:
• light movement
• elegant posture
• strong, cat-like feet
• balanced body mechanics
But long nails literally change how the paw touches the ground. The body starts compensating. And dogs rarely say 🙏🏻
“hey, my shoulders and wrists are uncomfortable today.”
❗️They just adapt quietly.
That’s why I keep repeating this to every puppy family, every client, every friend with a dog… probably for the 100th time already 🤩
Short nails are not about “perfect show grooming.”
They are about comfort, healthy movement, and protecting the body long-term💪
So this is your friendly breeder reminder:
If the nails touch the floor while standing… it’s time for a trim ✂️🐕
Your Basenji may not thank you during the process.
But their joints will thank you later. ❤️
