I’m so thrilled to be celebrating this special milestone. Today the kennel celebrates its 50th anniversary - on 1st August in 1970, the name Roseridge was registered in the Swedish Kennel Club. The first litter was born a few years earlier in 1967 and I joined the kennel in 1969. During all these years the aim has always been to maintain the breed type.
For every other breed I have encountered in my life, the more I love the ridgeback. Not because dogs of other breeds are unpleasant, but simply because the ridgeback suits me better than any other breed.
I love the breed for its great charm and personality, for its ingenuity, for its happy playfulness – that can sometimes be a bit challenging, at least while they are young! I love ridgebacks for their willingness to please without being completely obedient.
They worship you without hesitation. There is also nothing on earth that is more stubborn than a ridgeback. But, on the other hand, a ridgeback is more than any other breed anxious to really be your friend and companion.
I so enjoy seeing my ridgebacks around me. Their beautiful short fur decorated with a ridge is magnificent. Their robust muscular bodies radiate both tightness and strength. Their heads are so beautiful because they are neither weak nor rough. Their eyes have a special alert and intelligent expression that is so wonderful because at the same time they radiate such dignity.
For more than fifty years, these reddish-brown hounds have been my constant companions. They share my everyday life and have given me so many wonderful memories. Thanks to them, I'm never alone.
Hopefully you will enjoy the pictures of some Roseridge hounds.
