Owens Horse Training Principles:
In order to get the best performance from our horses we must first
establish a strong relationship based on trust and respect.
Our horses need to be encouraged to learn without force or aggression.
There are 3 essential ingredients that we require to have in order for our relationship with our horses to improve.
First (FOCUS):
Your horse must have their attention and focus on you above everything else. In order to teach them anything they must first be interested in what you have to say.
Second (RELAXATION):
Your horse must be able to relax in the work, this improves rhythm, balance and strength. If your horse is not relaxed there's a good chance that they're not enjoying it.
Third (COMMUNICATION):
It goes both ways, we must try to instruct our horses in the simplest and clearest way and in a way that they understand. We must also pay attention to what they are trying to tell us through expression and body language
TRAINING METHOD (Owens Horse Training):
I specialise in groundwork to increase Focus, Balance and Strength. This method improves ridden work and can be successfully used to solve most common problems.
I use a mix of free and in hand exercises to establish clear communication while allowing the horse their freedom of choice, this builds confidence in themselves and their trust in us, which in turn builds respect and leadership.
I have learned this method over years of working with horses and talented Horsemen and Women from Australia, USA and Canada.
The method is based on the Classical Dressage training pyramid using a mixture of different methods to achieve each goal while maintaining the best interest of the horse's body and mind.
In order to achieve lasting results in the training the owner or handler must be apart of the training process so that they can improve their own ability to train their horse as we are teaching our horses all the of the time, good habits and bad habits.
How can this help you and your horse?
All horse sports and equitation have one common principle and that is for a horse to perform at their best they must first be mentally and physically balanced and they must also be focused on the rider
and understand the cue or aid being used.
Some common issues resolved using this method are:
Dressage
Dropping shoulder in- running shoulder out.
Head tossing and pulling.
Jumping
Rushing, stopping, ducking out, spooking.
