Today a new star has been lit in the dog sky.
Our dear ICE “Bielkersmils Ice of Zouroff” was put to sleep today, just over 12 years old. After recently becoming unwell, we went to the vet for tests and examination, but once there, tests showed that quite a lot was not right. So we decided on the spot and it felt right as we did not want him to be in pain and suffering. It was an obvious decision for Ice’s sake but at the same time it feels like our hearts were broken.
ICE was our second male and came to us together with his sister Indra in 2013. He turned 12 years and three months old. We are so grateful that he was allowed to age with us and he was lively the whole time even though he started to age in the last year.
ICE was a fantastic dog, right from the start he was full of energy and loved to play and fool around with his sister Indra. He was a great charmer and liked to flirt with the bi***es. At the same time, he had great integrity and liked to do things his own way. He worked well with bi***es that he loved and with males it worked but he could also say no if it didn't suit him.
ICE is one of our show champions and he liked to run in the ring and show off. As we can see, he was a typical Samoyed with a lighter, more agile body, just enough fur and a fantastic move. As recently as a year ago, he was reaping great success as a veteran.
But what we remember best about ICE is his qualities as a sled dog. He wasn't the strongest, but he could run "for ever" at a flowing trot and never got tired. In one long race we did, the whole team was really tired, after many miles in the mountains, and chose to rest right after the finish line. But not ICE, he enjoyed jumping and wondered if we had really already reached the finish line. He fit perfectly in the Arctic environment with his fine fur, light body and nice running step. He has run many long races with the victory in the Polar Distance Race as the fondest memory along with 4th place in the World Championship for purebred polar dogs. He was not a lead dog but could otherwise run anywhere in the team. He was an important part of the team and an incredibly loyal and hard-working dog.
ICE has four litters and many beautiful puppies and grandchildren who keep his memory alive.
It is a great loss for us, and all the other dogs at the kennel will miss him. But the most important thing is that he is no longer in pain and can run freely in dog heaven with Lexie, Hero, Nanook, Lazer and Kallik.
In our hearts forever ❤️ ICE ❤️
