𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏: Thoracoscopic Techniques for Lung Tumors was a deep dive into the principles, equipment, and surgical steps for thoracoscopic surgery on lung tumors. The session was followed by an intensive Hands-On Lab, where participants practiced these techniques on models and cadavers.

𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐: Thoracic Wall Tumors explored various tumor types, surgical challenges, and oncologic principles. The Hands-On Lab gave participants the chance to practice thoracic wall reconstruction on models and cadavers.

🩺 Dacă ești student în anii III–VI la o facultate de medicină veterinară din România și vrei să-ți petreci vara descoperind universul fascinant al chirurgiei minim-invazive, endoscopiei, anesteziei, neurologiei, imagisticii și medicinii de laborator, acum este momentul să te alături echipei noastre!

📸 În imagine: trei studente, dintre care două nu doar că au participat la Școala de Vară de anul trecut, dar au făcut parte și din echipa de organizare a conferinței de chirurgie toracică-oncologică – una dintre cele mai complexe manifestări științifice din domeniul veterinar desfășurate în România.

🔹 Ele au fost implicate activ în toate sesiunile științifice, dar și în sesiunile practice, având post de lucru dedicat. Au trăit experiența completă – de la organizare, la știință, la practică.

💡 La fel ca ele, și tu poți face parte din echipă. Cei înscriși în Școala de Vară participă nu doar la activitățile zilnice din spitalul nostru, ci au acces prioritar și la workshop-urile și conferințele pe care le organizăm în perioada verii și ulterior.

The Concept of Sentinel Lymph Nodes
In current oncology, surgery no longer refers solely to the excision of the primary tumor with safety margins, but also to the removal of the lymphatic drainage structures of tumors, known as sentinel lymph nodes. The lymphatic drainage of tumors can vary from patient to patient, even if the primary tumor is located in the same anatomical region. The first thing to understand when discussing sentinel lymph node excision in oncological surgery is that regional lymph nodes are not the same as sentinel lymph nodes, and the identification of sentinel lymph nodes can only be accurately performed using contrast agents or identification markers.
Routine identification and excision of sentinel lymph nodes in neoplasms are essential steps in staging, prognosis, and determining the type of adjuvant therapy. In recent decades, radical lymphadenectomy has represented the standard approach and was considered the most suitable treatment for neoplastic disease despite the potential morbidity associated (such as lymphedema and nerve/vascular injuries). Recently, advanced screening techniques and technologies applied in medicine have led to the early diagnosis of neoplastic lesions discovered at stages without lymph node metastases. Currently, curative oncological surgery no longer requires excessive regional lymphatic clearance through radical lymphadenectomy. The sentinel lymph node mapping technique was developed to allow for precise nodal staging without causing the comorbidities associated with regional lymphadenectomy.
