Just learned of the passing of a legend in the Aquarium hobby. Heiko Bleher was a dear friend and someone who I would think often as the “Indiana Jones” of fish discoveries. His explorations and discoveries of new fish species across the world since the 1950’s has brought countless new species into the limelight. Always ready to explore the next frontier, documenting over decades the loss of habitats due to uncontrolled deforestation. Rest in peace.

Parosphromenus julieni is recently described Licorice gourami. The new species already faces serious threats to their future well being as their habitat swamps are being drained and converted into rice paddy fields. Researchers are calling for this new species to be listed as Critically Endangered. We currently have a small number of these captive bred licorice gouramis available in store.
