✈️ Choosing the Right Pet Travel Crate: Your Guide to IATA Compliance 🐾
Planning to relocate your pet? Their crate isn’t just a box — it’s their safe space for the journey. Here’s how to choose the right IATA-approved crate:
📏 1. Size Matters
Your pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
Measure your pet:
Length: Nose to base of tail
Height: Floor to top of ears (for upright breeds)
Add extra space for comfort
💨 2. Ventilation is Key
Look for openings on all 4 sides to ensure good airflow.
🔐 3. Secure Locking Mechanism
The crate must have a strong, spring-loaded or bolt-locking door — no zip ties or soft cases.
🦴 4. No Wheels Allowed
Remove any wheels before travel — IATA rules do not permit crates with wheels during flight.
🛑 5. Solid Construction
Hard-sided plastic or fiberglass crates are preferred. Avoid collapsible or wire crates.
💧 6. Food & Water Dishes
Must be attached to the inside of the door, and refillable from outside without opening the crate.
🪪 7. Label Clearly
Include:
“LIVE ANIMAL” sticker
Your contact info
Pet’s name
Feeding instructions (if needed)
📦 8. Absorbent Bedding
Place an absorbent mat or towel inside — no straw or loose materials.

💡Pro Tip: Airlines can reject non-compliant crates, even at the airport. Choose wisely from the start.
