Today I managed to clear the green rehab room. It needed a deep clean but as Thomas was staying there i couldn't do anything until he was able to go off and play with his pals.
Paka look a like PLA and Spirit are really looking sfter him. Its quite emotional seeing how they have stayed by his side when exploring the great outdoors. They know he has only one eye.

While I was scrubbing the fake grass they all came back in for a cool rest on the stones and earth.
I am praying in the near future we can concrete the green room so its easier to clean. Maybe a go fund me ?
We will see ,there are so many things we need but we have to prioritise!
Portable catio next maybe .
Some friends have offered to make the green room fun for our cats ,wirh shelving walkways and giant sctatching poles. Cannot wait for it to be done 🙏

We recieve no government funding caring for 300 colony cats from loule to silves
Plus 10 semi feral cats at our private retreat .
Despite our monthly costs of food and treatments will still help external feral and Strays which puts huge extra finical pressure on us .

Due to our amazing fellow volunteers the work still continued while I had a break.
Diana Jepson helped with a trap for a poor cat that had a grass sead in his eye. Sue successfully caught him and took him to the vet so now he is pain free,castrated and relaxing .thankyou both for caring 🙏❤️
Diane McDermott and Sean took mum cat and her kittens to our lead vet Faye . Faye gave them a thorough check and it was agreed to sterilise the mum as no milk and she was quite thin. The kittens at 4 weeks were already on mum and kitten wet and dry food . The mum was sterilsed at Arc de noe on wednesday.Thankyou Dra Anna ,Diane and Sean and the lovely lady who is caring for them all 🙏❤️

Melissa Braxton had a visting cat that looked poorly so was caught and taken to Dra Anna . The cat was tested and negative for felv and fhiv . He recieved an antibiotic injection as calci virus
Symptomatic. He was castrated. Melissa will monitor him if he stays around .
Melissa also took Larry one of her colony cats to Faye for his check up as he had prevously been attacked and had a bad abscess. Larry is doing well . Thankyou all 🙏❤️

Friday I took Thomas to have his stitches out from his eye removal and finally get his bucket off too ! He's is such a lovely cat. As I promised him months ago he could go out and play with his pals Spirit and Pakalook a like PLA . He was let out of the green room this morning and is having a cautious look around. He has been microchipped. Always a risk when we set them free but he needs to do this .

I also took Slives cat currently known as sweetie because he really is ! Well Faye has given him the all clear . His amazing foster( who likes to remain anonymous ) does so much for cats and dogs. Due to thier care he has recovered from his infection much quicker than we imagined. He cannot return to his previous environment in silves and now needs more space than his foster can offer at the moment but we do have a a couple of options of a pernanant home as a lap cat so he can have lots of cuddles . A Huge thankyou to you and Faye 🙏❤️

The Anon street dog that was treated for tick fever ,lieshimanosis and hearworm. This dog has had a journey thectreatment for heartworm is tough for them but totally necessary. The dog is doing well and has a loving home. The leishiminosis will remain a constant threat though. So medication for life. I have seen this dog and she is so happy and despite the issues looks well . A least they are receiving what is needed now and lots of love. Thankyou to all involved 🙏❤️

Toosie came out if her crate into the retreat and is loving the shade and the earth to roll on ! This has been a very long journey for those following Tootsie when she was caught by us bsck in December with rooting feet and a horrid worm infestation. She is now so well although she will continue her monthly steroid injection but decreasing dose under Faye advice. Thankyou to all who have helped Toosie on her journey

Our amazing volunteers Diane and Melissa are out trying to catch two visiting males in Alte that are injured proberly through fighting. Once caught they will be treated and castrated

Santa margirida has a female with 3 kittens . We sterilsed 30 cats there in November 2024 . We missed one! but seeing this female today she has a cut ear ! but obvously not spayed :(
She and the kittens will be vet checked tommorow , thank you Diane for vet run.

We saw a request for a trap for an injured cat in Loule on fb . Not one person or organsition offered a trap so we got in touch and another volunteer Diana sorted a trap and training for this lovely couple to catch the cat which they did this afternoon . Off to the vet in the morning .

Tootsie and silves cat went back to the vet today .
Tootsie had another steriod injection and a nexguard. She is now back in the retreat but loves her hammock in her crate so does not seem to want to venture out! hopefully soon .

This cutie continues to improve thanks to a amazing foster who is very kind and gentle. He is such a sweet cat and we hope in a months time he will be off the antibiotics and out of quarenteen .

If you believe an animal is being abused, neglected, abandoned or kept in dangerous conditions, do not assume somebody else has already reported it.

In Portugal, situations can be reported to:

• GNR SEPNA
• PSP
• Municipal animal welfare departments / Canil services
• Local Câmara Municipal
• Veterinary authorities where appropriate

Try to provide:
• exact location
• photos/videos where safe to obtain
• dates/times
• registration plates if relevant
• details of the animals and conditions

If the situation appears urgent or life-threatening, contact the authorities immediately rather than posting only on social media.

Silence and delay are often what allow abusive situations to continue for years.

6th June 2026.

3 course Lunch at Retiro dos Arcos Resturante, Loule. Includes a drink and coffee for €25 euros per head. An additional donation of €5 to our association or a donation of wet cat food would be very much appreciated. A copy of the menu will be sent on return if you wish to attend. There will also be a raffle held on the day :)

Monday 8th June we have 5 places left on our Paint , sip and dip at Qunita da Tor Loule
45 euros included guidance from amazing artist Tracy-Jane Pooler, materials, tapas ,glass of wine water and a dip after ! a deposit of 20 euros to secure your place please

Its been a very busy 10 days!
So here's a quick round up 🥰

Our Auction for street Cats Algarve raised £2400
This enabled us to pay for our food for our colonies ,the 10 feral cats at our private home that we are unable to rehome .As well as the external foster cat and external vet bills.
Huge thankyou to Jan Fisher-Taylor for helping with the deliveries🙏❤️

Thankyou ti Dpdsaa animal charity for sterilsation. PDA Community cats paid other associated costs .

We have offered traps and to pay for sterilsation for 3 separate requests but they have declined to be part of the solution and actually trap the cats and do the vet run!

Colony cats
We continue to have issues with dogs not on a lead at the Grande fonte and fonte pequena at alte. We will start reporting those we see where the dogs are not controlled in a Public area. Some think cats are vermin and allow thier dogs to chase and kill . We will not tolerate this , when will these dogs start attacking children!

We have taken Marmalade to our private retreat since Flora has been missing we are worried for him .He is quite friendly and the other cats are very feral and we feel its best for him to stay with us where he will be safe and loved. Flora is sterilsed and microchipped .if you have her or know where she is please let us know.

Melissa had to take one of her colony kittens to Fayes on thursday due to being attacked by another cat proberly a visting male. Larry is now feeling much better ! We need to catch this male and get him fixed !

External requests

We were asked to help a cat near Bouqueme that has breathing issues. Despite a packed day on thursday we tried to catch this cat .The catetaker was not sround so sfter driving around we found the colony feeding station . Unfortunately there was so much food down he was not hungry despite advising not to feed them ! So frustrating and being bitten by mozzies !
We offered the caretaker a trap as we could not return. Which they agreed to do but never got in touch. Just hope that the cat has got help.

Silves cat that we caught via request from.APAA . He is with a fab foster and in just under 2 weeks he is looking so much better. He has another check up with Faye next thursday so we carry on with antibiotics. Huge thankyou to fab foster🙏❤️

Thomas had his eye removed on tuesday. He is recovering in the green room and once he has had his stitches out he will be able to go out side and play with his friends PLA and Spirit .

Other news

Today we were a group of 18 who had a easy walk near messines. Huge thankyou to Sean and Diane McDermott for leading ,taking photos and for all who attended, we raised €140!! ❤️

We Still have unfinished projects to sort
The roof on the shed needs to be completed
The fencing and houses are at Alte but nothing has been done since the earth was removed a few months ago 🥲
We need a catio to be built for a new colony and we need an internal fence in the private retreat
Let's hope we can get these projects sorted so the cats can fully benefit.

There is an injured unfixed male to trap tommorow evening wish us luck !
