A few weeks ago we asked for donations towards a avery for our new colony 'Hillside Village' Silves

Our dear friend and caretaker has worked hard to provide the base and strengthen the avery for the windy weather !
We raised €180 towards the avery . The caretaker ordered and paid for the avery and has said to use the €180 towards the pickett fencing so the cats can come and go but the dogs cannot !
The land has been generously loaned to this project by the kind nieghbours .
The fencing will cost approx €700 so please can we ask for your help so we can provide a safe space for the mum and 4 kittens we rescued from a busy road 2 months ago and the 2 cats already living there. 😊

We hope to move the family into the avery in the next few days so they can be introduced to the other cats there and thier new environment over a period of time before being released . More info and photos to come !!

Update 2
Aplogies for delay in updating.
We recieved enough funds to cover this poor souls ,tests consutlation , end of life and cremation.
We had €62 left which went towards a vet bill for a white cat from Alte last week. Thankyou Diane McDermott for helping me trap. This white cat is one of two who will need to return to the vet asap we can catch them. One has skin cancer on the ears. I will make a seperate post asap. Not enough hours on the day or night atvthe moment !

Another poor soul needing vetinary attention.
A lady sent a pm asking us to help this boy.
Same story she feeds him but has no car so cannot borrow a trap and take tobthe vet ,cant afford a vet , but if he is ok she will keep him!
Well the truth is we have no money for a vet!
Im not a magician but this soul needs a check and if well enough castration.
We do hace funds set aside for sterilsations thanks to Dpdsaa animal charity however everytime we trap a cat the costs for us multiply
I really hope this boy will be ok he is waiting at the vets as they are busy and this was short notice so we are grateful they can see him today.
Please if you can spare a euro to go towards his bill we would ge so grateful 🙏 we can inly help them if we have funds and we do not have any until our next Auction for street Cats Algarve which starts on the 4th September. We do not enjoy begging for funds but when we recieve calls like this we have to do it for the cat .

TNR PROGRAMS: A MUNICIPAL RESPONSIBILITY

Throughout the country, there are stray or feral cats that survive thanks to the daily care of people who voluntarily feed them and seek to ensure their well-being – Thank you!

TNR programs – Trap, Neuter, and Return – are mandatory by law and essential for the responsible management of cat colonies and should be implemented by Municipal Governments, according to the needs and specificities of each community.

🔹 Sterilization is Prevention – Preventing unwanted reproduction should be one of the pillars of municipal animal health and welfare policies.

📢 The Animal Ombudsman reiterates to the Municipal Chambers the duty to:

1. Integrate stray or feral cats identified in the municipal TNR program, guaranteeing their capture, sterilization, and return;

2. Carry out these interventions without requiring caregivers to own the animals or pay the respective veterinary medical fees;

3. Ensure the electronic identification and registration of the intervened animals in the name of the Municipality, and not of the people who voluntarily feed and accompany them;

4. Recognize and frame the collaboration of caregivers, clearly distinguishing this voluntary function from the individual ownership of the animals;

5. Continuously and progressively strengthen the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and, when technically appropriate, create controlled feeding points with hygienic, sanitary, and sanitary surveillance conditions.

Paka and Dora 💔💔💔
I cannot believe they are both gone within 6 weeks of each other 🥲
Different circustances Dora was killed by dogs along with Thomas abd Chancer and Paka who left us yesterday we have to wait a few weeks to find the cause as it was acute. She seemed her normal self minutes earlier .

These two brave cuties were the inspiration and founding cats behind Pakadora Association PDA Community cats .

Both fiesty but loving ,independant and strong willed . Both found homeless . Paka in the uk Dora here in portugal.

We had another challenging week before we lost Paka yesterday so i had not got around to doing a roundup.
All our vets are on holiday so no TNR last week but we were still out trapping and doing the work.

We need time to process , so please bear with us 🙏

Thankyou Paka and Dora we miss you both terribly but grateful for the joy and love you both gave us and look how many cats and dogs you have both helped 💗

Week update
Its been another challenging week on top of TNR ,managing the colony cats , the cats in the green rehab room and the retreat not to mention this heat too!!

We currently have an extra 4 cats here at cat quaters

Bubbles

thevtiny kitten found last week at a colony with a throat infection went for her second vet check . We belive she is getting better . She will continue on the antibiotics. We need a foster or a permanant loving home as we cannot return her to the colony . Please pm if you can help.

Biscuit

Caretaker Diana and i have been trying to catch this cat for a week as he had a bad injury to his front paw . We finally got him on wednesday evening. While we wre trapping him a cat ripped iff the end if his tail !! Poor boy ,he was already in pain !

Being holiday season our vets are on holiday so we reached out to our friends at Amigos dos Gatos do Algarve - AGA . Thry kindly agreed to let us take him to thier vet and we are so grateful thry even paid the bill ! Thankyou so much 💓
Buscuit had a bad abscess which was cleaned . He has stitiches in his tail. He was given a 14 day antibiotic injection and continues on pain relief . He will stay in for the weekend as he is not stressed and i can ensure he is healed before release 🙏

Misty

A lady called Clare that has befriended Misty for 3 years while on holiday asked me if she could take her home to the uk.
In the season the cats are fed well by tourists but out of season it can be tough and the hotel dont really want the cats around although they do let me trap there for another association .
Clare got Misty today after trap training her all week she finally went in ,well done 👏 ✔️ 🙌
We took her straight to a vet to firstly check her health status and delighted she is healthy and fit to travel to the uk 🇬🇧 😀 Mistys life will change she will be in a loving home with two step sisters after very slowly introductions. First we need Misty to decompress and start to feel relaxed here until she leaves in September. Misty will recieve her passport on Tuesday . Clare is covering all costs for Misty we are just happy to volunteer our help.

Some of you are aware what gorgeous Larry has been through. He is well now and loves playing ! And the best news is a lovely couple are coming to meet him tommorow ❤️ who would not fall in love with him !!

For helping with trapping
Dpdsaa animal charity ,Faye at 124Vet and Dra Ana at Arc de noe vets . PDA Community cats paid for all associated costs .
All males are visting males at managed colonies.
It is so important to catch and castrate these cats asap to stop fighting ,spread of deseases and mating with females that locals may not have / want spayed.
I ginger cat had a thorn in his paw which was removed and we also took a white cat at Alte for a check up . Unfortunatly this cat has such bad gingivitus it could only have a steriod and antibiotic . We will assess and see if we can treat him at the colony as its too stressful for this cat to be trapped every month.
Any help with the vet bills would be much appreciated so we can continue to reduce the suffering thankyou 🙏

We are continuing with our sterilsation programe with the financial assisance of Dpdsaa animal charity who also kindly supplied more traps and transfer boxes !
We pay for for all associated costs including any cats requiring further vetinary care which can add extra pressure . Therefore we appreciate your continued donations as our main financial priority is our community cat colonies that cost a munimum of €1000 a month plus treatments. Many of us also have a job, homes to run ,families & our own pets to care for . We give our time for free to help animals. If you are rude, over demanding , do not turn up to help or treat us like your employee we will walk away.
