Fear is not training. Fear is control.
A dog should never have to learn through yelling, intimidation, pain, or being made to feel unsafe. Training should help a dog understand what we want from them, not make them scared of the person they trust.
When fear is used as a method, it can break confidence, create anxiety, and damage the bond between a dog and their owner. A frightened dog may obey in the moment, but that is not respect. That is survival.
Real training takes patience. It means clear communication, consistency, positive reinforcement, structure, and compassion. Dogs are not trying to be “bad.” Most of the time, they are confused, overwhelmed, under-exercised, scared, or simply never taught what to do.
Every animal deserves to feel safe while learning. Kindness is not weakness. Humane training builds trust, confidence, and a stronger relationship.
No dog should be punished into silence.
