Slip leash sitting loose and low on your dog’s neck? 👀🐕

I can guarantee that’s doing more harm than good. 🤷🏻‍♂️🥴

Placement is everything.
High and snug — right behind the ears, underneath the chin. That’s where it needs to live for it to work effectively and safely - can’t have it sliding down 👷🏼‍♂️

P shape over the head for the left side. q or 9 shape (whatever floats your goat 🐐) for the right. Leash running across the top of the neck towards you.

We lost Albus yesterday.

But thank the lord jebus we were able to find him.

Losing dogs is such commonplace. Sure. Sometimes you can become a little bit arrogant and cocky, thinking that your dogs recall is the bee’s knee’s.

But I urge everyone who owns a dog that is thinking of letting them have off leash freedom, to get a tracker. ASAP!

The peace of mind to be able to find your pooch when you have no eyes on them, is the difference between calmly collecting your tangled pooch and having a stress induced aneurysm.

The collar on your dog isn’t just an fancy pantsy accessory (although they can be). It’s a training tool. And the wrong one could be working against you. 🥲🐕‍🦺

Flat collars. Martingales. Slips + Prongs. They all have purpose’s as well as sounding like the authors of the marauder’s map (HP reference, sorry not sorry 🧙🏼‍♂️) - but none of them work if your dog doesn’t understand leash pressure. 😵‍💫👨🏻‍🏫

Bungee leads = delayed communication. Muddied signals. A dog pinging off the end of the leash like a pinball 🎳

Unless you’re competing in cross-country tandem dog sports — and let’s be honest, you’re not — you really don’t need one 🤷🏻‍♂️

what you do need: 6ft leash. Little to no give. Cleanest communication. Simple. 😌👍🏼

Your hound has a communication hierarchy. And your voice is at the bottom of it. 🙃

Here’s how it actually works:
👐 Tactile first. Leash pressure, physical guidance
👀 Visual second. Body language, hand signals, lures
🗣️ Verbal last. Your words. Dead last.

Howling “LEAVE!” to a pooch holding onto a rogue chicken carcass for dear life? Congratulations. You just taught “leave” to mean never let go! 🥲

Teach the behaviour physically first — leash pressure + lure. Then add the verbal cue just before the movement. In that order, every time.

Otherwise you’re just talking to yourself. Certainly not for the first time. Definitely won’t be the last. 😅

Plot twist: that harness you bought to stop your pooch pulling is literally designed for your dog to pull 🦮😵‍💫

You shouldn’t feel like a blithering baboon though — it’s one of the most common pitfalls I see. 🦧

Harnesses are brilliant tools in the right situation, but clipping your lead onto the back of one and hoping for the best?

That’s just giving your dog license to very comfortably pull your arm out of its socket 🦾💨

Collar first. Always. Unless you’ve got a nervous dog who needs that extra bit of confidence — then a back clip harness has its place.

Breed bans are lazy… 😴🐾

Every dog has the capability of causing serious damage — and some breeds obviously more so than others. But banning a breed doesn’t fix the problem. It just shifts the blame. 👆🏻👇🏼👉🏾👈🏼 🤷🏻‍♂️

Meanwhile small pooch owners get a free pass. No training. No boundaries. No accountability. Because “they’re only small, what’s the worst that could happen?”

That mentality is exactly the problem… 👨🏻‍🏫❌

Every dog deserves to be guided properly. Every owner has a duty to do that — no excuses, no exceptions.

Ban lazy ownership... Not breeds 🐶

A wee bum bag filled with kibble and meat is one of the most powerful tools you can have on a walk 💪🏼🔨🍖

Your dog is making splendid choices every single day. The question is, are you rewarding them in the moment? 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s how behaviours stick. That’s how you build a dog who chooses to listen — even when the world is throwing distractions at them left, right and rhubarb 😵‍💫🙂‍↔️

Golden learning opportunities are around every corner. Be ready for them 🎯🥳

Your pooch doesn’t need more treats. They need clearer communication. 👨🏻‍🏫🎙️
4 markers. 4 distinct messages. Zero confusion.

✅ Yes — terminal marker. Nailed a desired behaviour, reward is incoming.
🔄 Good — continuation marker. You’re on the right track, keep doing what your doing.
🔓 Free/Break — release marker. You’re done, go be a dog.
❌ No — correction marker. That’s not what I’m looking for, try again.

When your dog understands all four, training becomes a conversation — not a guessing game. 😌👍🏼

The secret to a healthy, successful dog? Get these 4 basics right first. 🥣🔑

1. Exercise 🏃🏻‍♂️🤾🏼‍♂️
Not just toilet breaks — getting actual steps in. Your dog needs physical movement - at least an hour a day (not even covering play yet!)

2. Diet 🍬 🥩
Bare minimum: high-protein kibble (60%+ protein). Ideal world: raw food or real food you’d eat yourself. Yes, it can be pricey, but it matters.

3. Rest/Sleep 😴
Your dog needs enforced rest. An overworked dog = cranky toddler. Toddlers need naps—so does your dog. Best way? Crate training.

4. General Wellbeing 😌
Check for undiagnosed ailments. Pain, discomfort, or illness massively affects behaviour. Dog seemingly changed overnight? Get them checked. If in doubt, check it out.

Nail these four. Then you can start fine-tuning.

Your dog jumps because it works. 🤯🫥🐕

You pet them. You push them away (attention). You talk to them. You make eye contact… you engage 😑

All of that = reward.

Solution
Block with knee’s→ step into their space → wait for 4 paws on the floor (a calm sit = 🤌🏼) → THEN reward.

Stop reinforcing the jump. Start reinforcing calm. 😌 😘
