Our very own natural art installation......
Petal heaven, The Wisteria has been incredible this year, sadly due to the excessive rain its not lasted long, today I woke up to the most beautiful arrangement of petals on our granite table and surrounding patio. It really looked like someone had painstakingly put each petal in place. I shall be collecting lots for my homemade potpouri and use as decoration for soaps. I just wish it stayed on the plant for longer!!

O paraíso das pétalas, as glicínias têm sido incríveis este ano, infelizmente devido à chuva excessiva não duraram muito tempo, hoje acordei com o mais belo arranjo de pétalas na nossa mesa de granito e no pátio circundante. Parecia mesmo que alguém tinha colocado meticulosamente cada pétala no seu lugar. Vou apanhar muitas para o meu potpouri caseiro e para usar como decoração em sabonetes. Só gostava que ficasse na planta durante mais tempo!!

Its interesting how photos can bring back so many memories.........

When we first started to renovate Quinta do Cobral, our abandoned farm, one of the critical things we needed was water and we didn’t have any! We now have a wonderful supply from a 65m borehole but before that we had to collect every drop we needed for drinking, cooking and washing from the fountain in the village. Fonte de São João became a daily visiting place, we turned up with 6 to 8 25L water containers and filled them up, for free, with the most wonderful tasting, fresh water. It was an absolute life line for us.
Now I have the pleasure of taking a few 3L bottles to fill with the same, crystal clear, sweet tasting water just because I love it, especially chilled on a hot day. Every time I fill up it makes me smile and remember our 22 year journey and why we absolutely love living here.

Quando começámos a renovar a Quinta do Cobral, a nossa quinta abandonada, uma das coisas mais importantes que precisávamos era de água e não a tínhamos! Atualmente, temos um excelente abastecimento através de um furo de 65 metros, mas antes disso tínhamos de recolher todas as gotas de água que precisávamos para beber, cozinhar e lavar na fonte da aldeia. A Fonte de São João tornou-se um local de visita diária, aparecíamos com 6 a 8 recipientes de água de 25L e enchíamo-los, de graça, com a água fresca de sabor maravilhoso. Foi uma verdadeira tábua de salvação para nós.
Agora tenho o prazer de levar algumas garrafas de 3L para encher com a mesma água, cristalina e de sabor doce, só porque a adoro, especialmente fresca num dia quente. Cada vez que a encho, faz-me sorrir e lembrar a nossa viagem de 22 anos e a razão pela qual adoramos viver aqui.

My Dads Silver Poplar tree seen every morning from my kitchen window ……..

Its vivid foliage brings me such joy especially at this time of year. It is most spectacular on a bright sunny day against a cloudless sky with a breeze blowing through its leaves. The tree seems to sparkle like it’s covered in glitter when the leaves dance and show their silver backs to perfection. See reel that follows this post.

In 2018 while visiting my Dad in France I managed to dig up 2 suckers from his magnificent tree which was over 30m high and bring them home. Lots of love and care let to both trees thriving. Now this one is a glittering reminder of him every day, one that I treasure.
While looking up the history of these trees for this post I discovered that in Ancient Greco-Roman mythology the Silver Poplar was a symbol of a peaceful afterlife and a memory of those we love who have died, and in the language of flowers, its meaning is “time”. How absolutely perfect is that?

O choupo do meu pai, visto todas as manhãs da janela da minha cozinha.........
A sua folhagem viva traz-me muita alegria, especialmente nesta altura do ano. É mais espetacular num dia de sol brilhante, contra um céu sem nuvens e com uma brisa a soprar nas suas folhas. A árvore parece brilhar como se estivesse coberta de purpurina quando as folhas dançam e mostram as suas costas prateadas na perfeição.
Em 2018, enquanto visitava o meu pai em França, consegui desenterrar 2 rebentos da sua magnífica árvore com mais de 30 metros de altura e trazê-los para casa. Muito amor e carinho fizeram com que ambas as árvores prosperassem. Agora, esta é uma recordação brilhante dele todos os dias, uma recordação que guardo com carinho.
Enquanto pesquisava a história destas árvores para este post, descobri que, na mitologia greco-romana antiga, o choupo-prateado era um símbolo de uma vida pacífica após a morte e uma memória daqueles que amamos e que, na linguagem das flores, o seu significado é “tempo”. Não é absolutamente perfeito?

Its Ylvas Birthday, 4 years old and still and cute as ever....

Actually, to be totally honest, we don't know her actual Birthday as she was rescued from Braga as a small puppy (around 8 weeks old we think). She was a street puppy and during a particularly fierce thunderstorm her parents ran off, as she was too small to keep up she was left soaking wet in the middle of the road. We were lucky enough to see a Facebook post asking for adoptees. She has now been living with us for 4 years and is loved by everyone especially the kids who come to stay at our Quinta. Super friendly and absolutely loves cuddles, she is a really lovely girl and we love having her at our farm. HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY YLVA - We all love you 🐕🎂🎉

É o aniversário da Ylvas, com 4 anos e ainda tão gira como sempre....

Na verdade, para sermos totalmente honestos, não sabemos qual é o seu verdadeiro aniversário, uma vez que foi resgatada de Braga quando era um cachorrinho pequeno (cerca de 8 semanas de idade, pensamos). Era uma cachorrinha de rua e, durante uma tempestade particularmente violenta, os pais fugiram e, como era demasiado pequena para a acompanhar, foi deixada encharcada no meio da estrada. Tivemos a sorte de ver uma publicação no Facebook a pedir adoptantes. Ela já vive connosco há 4 anos e é adorada por todos, especialmente pelas crianças que vêm ficar na nossa Quinta. Super simpática e adora mimos, é uma menina muito querida e adoramos tê-la na nossa quinta. FELIZ 4º BIRTHDAY YLVA - Todos te adoramos 🐕🎂🎉

Tumeric has been used successfully for years…..

We have been making our own Golden Paste with Tumeric and using it to help our wonderful old dog Blue. Last year he suffered a fit similar to a stroke, we rushed him to our local vet who put him on a drip as he was dehydrated and kept him in overnight, she did say that he probably would be unable to walk again. Blue, being Blue! was asleep when Richard went to pick him up, he promptly astonished us all by getting up and walking out of the cage. He is an incredible dog as all those of you who know him understand and we want to give him the best possible old age. He is still walking, skipping around at meal times and generally enjoying our visitors and life as usual, it's incredible and we put a lot of his pain free happiness down to Tumeric. This wonder spice is used to control inflammation and pain, itchy skin conditions and allergies, atopy, arthritis, infections, age degeneration and for various cancers❤️

A curcuma tem sido utilizada com sucesso há anos para ajudar em muitos problemas, tanto em animais como em humanos....

Temos estado a fazer a nossa própria Pasta Dourada com Tumeric e a utilizá-la para ajudar o nosso maravilhoso cão Blue. No ano passado, sofreu um ataque semelhante a um AVC. Levámo-lo de imediato ao nosso veterinário local, que o pôs a soro, pois estava desidratado, e o manteve internado durante a noite. Blue, sendo Blue! estava a dormir quando o Richard o foi buscar, mas surpreendeu-nos a todos ao levantar-se e sair da gaiola. É um cão incrível, como todos os que o conhecem sabem, e queremos dar-lhe a melhor velhice possível. Continua a andar, a saltitar à hora das refeições e, de um modo geral, a desfrutar das nossas visitas e da vida como sempre, é incrível e atribuímos grande parte da sua felicidade sem dores ao Tumeric. Esta especiaria milagrosa é utilizada para controlar a inflamação e a dor, as alergias e as comichões na pele, a atopia, a artrite, as infecções, a degeneração da idade e vários tipos de cancro❤️
